The differential carrier along with the ring & pinion are the same.

The 04 RWD axle would be a direct swap for the 03 with verification of the gear ratio.

Installing the 02 differential and gearing into either the 03 or 04 axle would be no different than putting in new gears, You still need to have the gears set up properly.

Up through 89 are 26 spline, 90-05 are 28 spline.

I am exploring all my options...

Are all ring and pinion carriers the same?

I would rather use my 2000 RWD ring and pinion plus carrier and obtain new axle since the carrier is probably ruined where the carrier accepts the 28 splines 6 lug on 2003. I don't know what I get from a junk yard. And would save me tons of work. If so the carriers are all the same. I understand that 1995-2002 used 28 splines, 2003 could have both 28 and 30 and 2004-2005 was all 30 spline.

I suppose discovery will answer all these questions.

QUESTION is:

Would a 2004 RWD Differential suffice as a replacement for 2003 AWD?
