Re: Finally!

Glad it helped. I do put 5w-30 in, actually. I tend to stick with Castrol as it's always treated me well.

Mine was loud until I replaced the fuel filter. Silent for the year since and (knock on wood) running fine.

Re: Tires for towing

Forgot to mention, mine replaced nearly-new Michelin P-rated tires the PO put on. The van rolled and waffled all over. With the Firestones (LT tires), the roll, wander and waffle is gone.

Re: Looked at a 2000 AWD today - red flags or not...?

Your fan clutch is fine. It's not used at highway speeds but is used at idle. Since it cooled off idling, the fan clutch is good. If the coolant is that sludgy, consider a chemical flush, then flush with water then fill with 50/50 mix of green stuff and distilled water. Sounds like someone didn't fl...

Re: Tires for towing

I am very happy with my Firestone Destination LE2 tires. Towed a Jeep Liberty on a Uhaul car trailer back from Michigan to Maryland (in snow) with zero issues. No smooshing despite towing 6200 lbs, over 500 of that tongue weight.

Picture is in my Pics of the new '02 Astro thread in Uncategorized.

A Random Bush wrote:As it turns out it was the fuel pump, I had always heard fuel pumps don't get weak, the either work or they don't. Well I guess they were wrong, she's running like new now! :D

Yeah, I heard that too. Not true in my experience, either.

Re: What have you done with your other vehicles today.

Put the 'new' cargo cover in place in the Jeep - now guns & ammo will be under cover ;)

Yep, should be there. All wrapped up in light grey tape with a factory warning tag on it.

Re: Wiring Controller

The trailer wiring should be taped up in a bundle under the jack in the passenger rear.

I'd have to find my pic, but I don't think there was already a wire in the bundle for a brake controller. Then again, I only needed a flat-4 connector, so I didn't pay much attention to the extra wires...

Re: What have you done to/with your van today?

Drove it to Allentown, PA for a funeral, then Northumberland, PA for the burial then back home to MD. Averaged 17.6 for the trip, going 80 on legs 1 & 3 up and down hills with a little stop & go traffic thrown in.

Re: What have you done with your other vehicles today.

We've replaced one valve cover gasket, the bf rebuilt the carb and I've done a complete tuneup (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, ballast resistor, voltage regulator and ignition module). I have to replace the oil pan gaskets and oil filter mount/oil pump gasket, along with motor mounts. At some point...

Re: What have you done with your other vehicles today.

Dang, your brother's 440 is much prettier than mine. Of course, no one ever looks under the engine cover of an RV  Mine's a 440-3, so more cooling than a car 440-1 and the RV cam. And the small spark plugs instead of the fat ones - I hadn't guessed that when we went to pick it up. I brought the...
