Re: How to break into my van

That long antenna rod that musicman describes...

Stick that through the rubber/door jam, reach tip of antenna to opposite side of the cab, hit UNLOCK button. Used to be called a "Corvette Master Key", CB antenna whip was the tool of choice.

Re: Bad Ast Project

What's it like welding to those big cast spindles?

What weld process are you using? MIG? Stick?

Re: Rear AC Removal

Is the rear fan the same part as the front fan? So those of us deleting the rear can keep the fan for a spare?

Re: Replacing Upper Ball Joint: what am I doing wrong?

I'd do increasingly larger bits. You've got a through hole. The metal holding that thing in place is getting less and less thick (it's going away!). Drill it out a little, bang on it a little, bang from another direction, Drill a little more, eventually (maybe now) there's only a foil sized piece of...

Re: Replacing Upper Ball Joint: what am I doing wrong?

VERY proud of you Dawn... I sure am. She's getting the job done with the tools at hand. I don't think it's job that could be done easier by "A Man". It's not a strength issue. And I don't think she's using a tool incorrectly. I've sacrificed a wood chisel to get something metal to move. I...

Re: Replacing Upper Ball Joint: what am I doing wrong?

[chaining the coils] You DO realize the spring can't go anywhere with a shock running thru it, don't you? Plus... with the FULL weight of the vehicle on it, you couldn't pry is out if you wanted to. To get the spring out, you have to actually remove the shock, then keep lowering and finally pushing...

Re: Replacing Upper Ball Joint: what am I doing wrong?

It's moving, even though you can't see it. The surfaces that are binding each other are microscopic. Oil, repeated hits/vibration all break the thing free. Just plain hitting it modestly over and over again is a pretty good technique. When it does break loose you can "reverse cuss". That's...

Re: Rattling/Rumbling sound from rear

I used to have a hard mount welded between the body metal and my exhaust. At a certain RPM it was like the pre-chorus on a dance-trance song. Raise it 20 RPMs and it's back to 1960s library quiet. Cut the steel, replaced with rubber trucker's load straps that several here said would fail within elev...

Re: Sweeten Up the Vacuum System

Willy Loman, Tom Joad, Vladamire and Estragon, Kerouac, Ghengis Kahn, and I think Justin Bieber, many famous personalities started out by tackling their vacuum lines. Once armed with that kind of confidence, nothing is impossible.
