Preventative maintenance routine

I've been learning a lot through this forum. Not too long ago, I thought that automobiles were things with wheels that run on magic. Now I have a broad grasp of the various parts and fluids and how they work together to make something that runs. Thank you to everyone who has been patiently answering...

Re: power locks go crazy when it rains

Getting out of your comfort zone or expertise doesn't make you dumb. It's called learning. :D true that. : ) Leak is fixed now but I don't know if it was recently fixed or a while back. Maybe the windshield leak was the start of the problem ? i fixed it pretty recently, like 2 weeks ago. it...

Re: power locks go crazy when it rains

It goes on the negative cable/wire. The black one. lmao. i'm dumb, but not that dumb. thanks though. i think i didn't make myself clear. the switch i bought requires stripping the ground wire and inserting it into part of the switch. my battery has two ground wires (one leading from all the electri...

Re: power locks go crazy when it rains

You can use the dome override switch in the interim to shut off the lights inside. The button is next to the headlight dial. yeah, the dome override switch was already turned on when the lights were on last night. so i don't think that the van thought the doors were open or anything. When they go c...

Re: Cabin battery placement

For a good boondocking setup I would expect to spend at least $1k for charger, panels and cables. woaaaaaaaaaah. everything i've bought so far has only cost $370. and i have an estimated $30 left of items to buy. of course, i'm /trying/ to keep the costs low in every way possible, more to demonstra...

Re: Replacing Upper Ball Joint: what am I doing wrong?

So I took my first ride to town today. The brakes feel really tight? And there's usually a little crunching sound when I brake, but it seems louder now.

Maybe I'm just paranoid cause brakes going out is my worst nightmare.

Re: Cabin battery placement

Will posted how to disable auto lock previously, you might try that. yeah, i'm trying to figure out where the fuse is that he suggested pulling. from my research, i think it's the one under the dash. i'm trying to find a diagram for it. it only happens when it rains. should i start a new thread?

Re: Cabin battery placement

ahh. so i can just hook it up with jumper cables and try to jump it as if it was another car? Just remember that starter batteries don't do well being discharged very much and will quickly kill the battery if done often and deep enough. this scares me. i definitely need to fix my electrical problem ...

Re: Cabin battery placement

it's the idea of using renewable energy that gets me excited. honestly, this is just for me to have a project to work on and experiment with. when/if i stop living in the van, i'll continue to use the setup. and if i ever own a house/land, i plan on going off-grid completely. it may not be the best ...
