Re: Epoch Roadtrip No. 1

in the past 22 days, we've made it across 2.5 states and now are officially in "the west" (i think). we had one extremely miserable cold and rainy day in Missouri that made me question the desirability of van life. we successfully avoided our van being washed downstream in the flooding tho...

Re: New Brake Pads/Rotors

Cheap pads are NOT going to put your life at risk! lol But they probably will wear out sooner than the better quality pads. How long are you keeping this van again??? good to know. i don't know, the more i drive the van, the more i love it, so i hope i can keep it for a long while. but i might not ...

Re: New Brake Pads/Rotors

I wouldn't get 'em. They'll work, likely for about 20,000 miles - or less. Spend money. Get real brake pads and rotors. Go to NAPA or spend extra at RockAuto. Don't get 'economy' anything. how would i tell that something is good independent of the price tag? or are you saying i should buy the most ...

Re: New Brake Pads/Rotors

As far as pads go, these dictate your stopping power... NEVER skimp. You want semi-metallic since that's what came on your van (not ceramic). ah. thanks! so would these work? https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/wearever-silver-semi-metallic-brake-pads-front-4-pad-set-mkd369/5592240-P?navigationPath...

New Brake Pads/Rotors

I need to replace the brake pads. I figured I might as well replace the rotors as well. Should I also replace the calipers? How do I choose parts? I'm looking on rockauto and there are several different categories: economy, daily driver, performance, etc. Is there a best material for the pads? Does ...

Re: Help me compare these tires

Dawn do you have a hacksaw? nope. Use a similar center piece from a car (that is heavy gauge) the type that threads and holds the tire in place from the top side. Easy to get to at JY. Not trying to complicate things actually hoping for a path of least resistance. i'm not understanding you due to t...

Re: Help me compare these tires

not to distract from astrodabber's question, but we tried to mount the spare and it kept falling off. here's a picture of the holder. i assume we'll have to hit up a junkyard around here.

Re: Epoch Roadtrip No. 1

thanks, everyone. definitely wouldn't be in Missouri right now without this community! Let us know your timing into SoCal, we'll setup a camp out or something. Any read on timing for burning van? that'd be awesome! we're taking things pretty slow, so i don't think we'll be able to make it to Washing...

Engine misfires when it rains?

Yesterday while leaving St. Louis, the engine started misfiring while accelerating (not idling) and only at low speeds. It seemed to be an exacerbation of my van's problem with accelerating at low speeds under normal conditions. I pulled over and it was throwing a P0300 misfire code. But when I rest...

Epoch Roadtrip No. 1

I've been on the road for 19 days now. I figured it's time to start sharing out. Goal of the journey: make it to the west coast sometime before August while experiencing as many natural wonders and meeting as many great people as possible. Currently, we're in St. Louis, MO. It's rained the whole tim...

i think this is it.

while we were pulling it up it fell out once or twice.

we were able to find one for $25, luckily. we'll mount it securely with other things and keep an eye out of our rear view mirrors...lol

Creaking from rear end

Often when I stop, park and turn the ignition off, I hear a creaking noise from the rear driver's side. Like a constant creaking as if something is swinging back and forth. By the time I get out and look underneath it stops. Any ideas of what this could be? I haven't had time to really look at it ye...

Re: Help me compare these tires

Cable's fine. I think it was tightened properly. This has happened before, which is why I was missing the original spare. When it scrapes on something, it falls out. I guess we'll get another and secure it with large zip ties, bungee chords and whatever else we have lying around. Shame, cause that l...

Re: Help me compare these tires

Welllll

After a few weeks of searching for a wheel and a place to get it mounted, we finally put everything together and mounted it underneath. Then drove from the Shawnee national forest to Carbondale.

This morning I checked and the tire is gone. :(

Re: Help me compare these tires

Yep. Definitely not something I want to spend a lot on.

Regarding tire pressure, if it says max is 35psi, should I inflate them to 35? It seems that the tire shop inflated them all to 30.
