Has anyone tried this EP-LSD Posi for the front diff?

Postby chaosR [OP] » January 2nd 2015, 5:20am

Just wondering if anyone has run this EP-LSD Posi for the front 7.2 diff?

http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=94577

http://www.engineered.net/eplsd.htm

I have been looking for something for the front for a long time, as you may know there is not really a lot out there for the 7.2 front. For all of us who drive our vans everyday a posi or manual locker of some sort is the perfect solution.

Anyway I talked to this fellow last year about it and am thinking of doing this. Sounds like he has built a lot of these for FWD turbo cars that people drag race ect. So seems tough enough.

I have a true track in the rear and my van is a true 4x4 with 2007 5.3 truck driveline. So I think this will be great for 4 wheeling and still keep street manners especially on slippery roads if it works as well as described.

So if anyone has experience with this or has found something else please post.

I used to build trucks for off roading look into an air locker, otherwise you may have to ask in the truck forums for ideas. Good luck

Ya I've been looking for over a year, seems like a guy has to go to the 8.25 IFS diff before you can get any lockers. Nothing even for the 7.6 IFS. and even less for our 7.2 IFS.

The 8.25 is huge and then a guy has do do all the shafts, probably custom and new frame mounts. So far this is all I've been able to find that makes any kind of sense.

There is also the clearance issues, with my 5.3 driveline its already tight, and my diff is already dropped 1" as is.

I know people will say solid axle, but I don't think I need that, I never had issues with my front diff and I 4 wheel a lot. I'm just not a hack out there and know the limits of my machine.

And a solid front diff is just to much cash and work for me, I'm just looking for a bit more front end traction in mud holes and up steep hills.

That's why i'm wondering if anyone has tried this LSD in our vans. Sounds like he's been building them for almost 15 years now. So I figured someone must have run them by now.

There is a guy on the other forum that is installing one in a ZR2 iron front diff for his Astro. Hopefully we'll get some feedback by spring, looks interesting for sure.

Thanks for posting the link, I did read it but ya, no real info there yet.
I'm actually surprised I haven't heard of anyone using it in a Astro yet. Like I said its been around for so long and there is nothing else available for the front diff as far as a limited slip goes.

Sorry for bringing an old thread back. But for only $4,000 you can have a Dana 30 with eaton e-locker in the front of your Astro van:

ONLY.

When I get around to making this happen, I'm going to go with the Torsen.
