Got Sick Of The Vibrating And Noise, And It would Of Been Cheap And Faster To Swap Rears. Rides Nice Now :layrubber:
Now I Got To Try And Find Out What The Old Gears Were Because The Gear Box Sticker Is Gone, Can't Seem To Find It On The Rear End, Any Other Way To Figure That Out

It Only Took 4 Hours (with A 30min Lunch) To Pull Both And Pull The New One In

Good work! Swapping rearends on these Vans looks pretty straight forward. Good pics too! 8-)

Its just nice seeing a vehicle were you don't have to drop the exhaust and gas tank to even get to the rearend.

You still trying to figure out the rearend gear ratio?
If so you can jack the wheels off the ground and spin the wheels(helps to mark the tire) once around in neutral. Count how many times around the driveshaft goes. So, 3 and almost a half turn would be 3.42 gears.

There should be some numbers cast into the pumpkin that will lead you in the right direction. Don't know which ones you need but a dealers parts guy should know.
Or you can pop the cover and count teeph

Mr_Bowtie beat me to it. I did it the other way though, I turned the driveshaft yoke and counted the turns until the wheel went around one time. Either way, same principle.

BTW- I figured the van had enough problems to warrant parting it out. They don't always show in pics.

Sounds like the easy way would be to pop off the diff cover, the rear end is going to the scrap yard, unless someone needs a houseing

Probably a good idea to give it some fresh fluid anyways.

I'm gonna guess it has 3.42 gears. :D

That's too funny. I know how you feel. After twenty years in the same house (actually closer to 35 being as bought my parents home) and many many projects of all types and flavours. Add to that of being somewhat of a pack rat and messy and finishing alot of projects with 1 beer too many. My next project is to clean up my mess. LOL

BTW good job on the swap. Did you figure out what the old ratio was yet?

Amen on that!
Count the teeth on the ring gear, and the pinion, divide the teeth on the ring gear, by the teeth on the pinion, there's your ratio.

Cmon you guys, like, dontcha even know?

He says it has 11-41 stamped on it.

11-41 exactly represents how many teeth are on the pinion (11) and crown (41)
11 goes into 41 exactly 3.72727273 times, it was a 3.73:1 axle.......

The reply on page 1 showed a stamp = 13-42
13 goes into 42 exactly 3.23076923 times, it was a 3.23:1 axle.......

Pretty basic stuff, once you know what it means.

So whats the speed difference in 3.42 (new gears) and 3.73 (Old gears)

This looks like a very good job from the pics!

I am in the middle of swapping my rear diif. right now. everything was pretty much straight forward and it started to come out. The only issue I am having is with those Godforsaken bolts on the back of the Leaf Springs! How did you gt yours out? Im so close right now but the things will not budge!

Yea its a easy swap till it comes to those bolts, the bolts on my black van wouldn't move even with a wrench and a pipe on it. so cut them, but the ones on the blue van cam right off. i would recommend replaceing them with greaseable bolts, i did just in case
