I took the astro emblems off of my doors. I pried them off and heard two loud pops. Sure enough, there are two holes on each door were the plastic rivets went thru. The stripping was also removed and plastic clips and nails were used to hold them on.

I wish mine were just taped on, I would have had to spend any time filling those holes.

Yeah, I wanted to take the trim and emblems off of my 96.
Either way, clips or glue, the paint is destroyed, isn't it?

well if they are stuck with tape you can take a heat gun to it and it will come off pretty easy

And if they used clips, paint should be fine. As long as there was no rust or the paint was scratched with the tool used to remove the trim.

I just finished removing all the factory skirting off my '98 AWD. The majority of it was held on (really good) with 3m type tape. A few plastic clips held it under the rockers but they remove by just inserting a screwdriver and giving a gentle twist. There were also a few stategic screws (7mm hex) holding it on but they were in unseen areas. The paint underneath was perfect. The worst thing about the whole job was/is removing the sticky residue from the tape. I may be doing that for days.

I like the look way better without the trim. it also alows for larger tires and looks better with the 5" front and 6" rear lift I just I just put on it.

On my van I just started at a corner and peeled it off. I found it was the least destructive way after trying several other methods. There were some 7mm screws along the rockers, behind the bumper below the tailights and along the front wheel arches. On my van the last third of the front wheel arches were part of the side molding, I had to get a set from a cargo van to replace them. The two sided tape can be a p.i.t.a., I used a 3m eraser wheel to remove it.

If you have an electric or air drill, you can get a removal disk, like this : http://www.tcpglobal.com/autobodydepot/ ... o=AST+400E. Thats just one example, I'm sure there are other brands. We use it for asdhesive removal during molding replacement at the dealer I work. You just need to be cafeful not to hold it in one spot too long as it could burn the paint.
You ain't nothin' unless you have green plugs.

I took off my emblems on my 96, not the trim yet, but it was all 3M stuff. However, you can still see the out line of where it said "safari" on the doors. But from about 10 feet it looks alright. Those afore mentioned adhesive removal disks make quick work of the tape.
