Can't open rear glass hatch

Can't open rear glass hatch

Postby sausagefingers [OP] » September 29th 2010, 4:01am

Long story short, my '04 Astro was stolen a couple of weeks ago and it was recovered two days later parked in a neighborhood. They didn't really mess anything up except when talking to neighbors, someone saw them fly through an intersection, get a little air and bottom it out. Besides a new alignment and muffler everything is pretty much ok except the rear glass hatch won't open. It has the button you press that engages a motor that unlatches the locks on it but now when the button is pressed nothing happens. Now I can't figure out how to get it open to see what's wrong since it's shut I can't take the plastic panels off from the inside. Unless there is a manual switch somewhere I'm out of ideas on what to do.

By rear glass hatch, I think you mean the dutch door? What have you tried? ...checked?

Take a look at the referenced thread, you may get some ideas there. Then, get back to us with some details, the more the merrier.

I checked all the fuses none of them looked blown, so I'd switch out the one for the lighter/door but which one is it? I don't have manual for my van and what little searching on the interweb hasn't show me either. Help please...

Is it possible that its not getting the signal that the Van is in PARK? I believe that you have to be in park to pop it right?

I just had this happen on my van. It ended up being the Cigarette lighter fuse(#12 or 13 I think).

Awesome thanks, i'll go check that out. We had the stupid thing at a shop the last 3 weeks while the insurance adjuster came and the shop aligned and replaced the muffler so I haven't been able to look at anything. Note to everyone out there, don't get your van stolen...

Well of course that was it. Hell I didn't even realize there were two fuse blocks in this thing. Anyway thanks alot for the help. You did what 4 mechanics couldn't figure out at a reputable shop hahaha... Now my next question, what is the electrical box next to the fuse panel under the dash? There were two things disconnected from it and I don't have a clue what they are for or if I should even plug them in. I'll just ask this in electrical....
