2000 GMC Safari Audio Build

Postby The_SUBfari [OP] » March 14th 2017, 3:28am

Hey Guys I'm new to the forums and wanted to post what I'm working on. I bought a 2000 GMC Safari back in November to do a huge audio build in it. Currently I'm in the process of having it painted. The back passenger sliding door has been eliminated and welded shut and the track filled in and shaved the door handle. It was in pretty bad shape body work wise but my buddy is making it look beautiful.

Here's what the build will consist of

8 18 inch subs
8 3k Amps
17 Group 31 AGMs
3 370 amp Alternators
A whole lot of 2/0 OFC
16 Sets of components

I have attached pics of progress

really awesome project! Are those door panels a custom modification or can they be purchased aftermarket?

Wow, you're dumping some serious coinage into that van! I'm jealous, my DCPOWER alt didn't have a big *** output bolt like that. Mine is 300A.

While I am surely impressed with the Shaved and Hidden door/components - never seen THAT done...
Very surprised you did not fill the Gap in the Door / Rr. Wheel area.

Kinda' like this side already is - there is the Mirror Image, too.
Even more surprising is that you left the Cladding on at all.
Seems most Radical Customizers / Sound Guys tear that stuff off Right Now.

Wow - and those Batteries , 6V? , 12V? - Has to be the most I have seen anywhere in one Place.
Can and would you explain? Guess those Alternators can't handle the pull...eh?

Welcome and Looking forward to seeing ( probably Hearing? , too ) your progress and build stuff.

Damn dude I totally didn't notice that part let me see if that can get fixed no biggie.

I just left the trim panels on cause it forms good but I do also like the clean look without them

The batteries are all 12v and will be wired in parallel so that means it will increase the Amp Hours of each battery together I believe these are 110amp hour so wired in parallel I will have a total of 1870 Amp hours of battery reserve.

As for the Alternators no 3 370 amp Alternators will not stand up to the amount of current I will be drawing from the amplifiers I will easily be over 1000 amps of current being drawn so the batteries are more of a buffer the Alts will maintain them so they don't drain.

Thanks for the welcome glad to be here I live in Phoenix Arizona and I plan on traveling to Audio shows across the US once this is done

Probably the best advice I can give on your build is... don't drive down Lumpy's street unless you want to see what a shoulder fired missile can do.

I'm looking forward to see how you get 3 alternators in. I can see 2, one in the stock location and the other where the AC mounts, but the third?

bicycle pedals on the passenger floor.
 You don't need to chip in for gas, just pedal...

I can get 4 Alts on it and will if I need it. But the bracket goes on the drivers side and puts a alt where the ac goes then it moves the power steering pump to under the master brake cylinder and allows for a alt to be where the stock power steering pump location is
