03-04 Astro/Safari Seats

Postby Astro1701D [OP] » June 3rd 2016, 2:53pm

Hi everyone, new poster. I bought an 04 passenger Astro last year with no seats, which was fine because we used it as a camper. But now I'm finding I need a seat for various trips with friends etc. A few questions I'm hoping you all can help me with:

1. Are 2nd and 3rd row seats interchangeable? I'm wondering if I buy a 3rd row seat, can it be used in the 2nd row position?

2. Will only 2003-04 seats work in an 04 Astro, or will older model seats work as well?

3. Are the Astro and Safari seats interchangeable?

Thanks for any help! Any suggestions on where to look for seats is also appreciated. I live in NC and I've tried Craigslist, eBay, and junkyards via car-parts.com but have had little luck so far (the junkyard seats were in very rough shape).

Now if only it were accurate.

1. The second row bench seats are different than the third in important ways.
    A. Second row seat has a passenger side armrest(even on standard bench seats) because of the gap between the seat and the sliding door
    B. Second row seat has the attachment point(and guide) for the passenger side seatbelt, which won't be there on the third row seat, so if you want to use all three available seats in the second row bench, get a second row seat for the second row.

2. Older seats will fit into the slots on the floor, but watch the seatbelt configuration on the really old ones. The newer ones have a top strap latch system for child safety seats. I think that started around 2000, I would start looking at 2000 and newer.

3. Astro and Safari vans are the same beast, with some extremely minor differences.
