One of the yellow wires goes to the goes to the radio/acc/ fuse , the other yellow wire goes to computer data line,
When you get the - - dashes it means the system needs to be calibrated , after which it will read out numbers

or you have lost connection to the data input

or lost connection with the temp sensor

What was the reason you changed out the computer and did you change just the display , ? the way the 98 is wired is a little different than the way the 2002 is wired ,

Does it give temp or compass reading?

the newer display gets a data signal from the VSS , did you connect it up?

VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor ,, it is a dark green wire that connects to either the PCM or speedo to get mpg info, that is likely your problem

It would be easier if you would tell me what what way the 6 wire plug was wired , and then tell me how the 7 wire plug is now wired , you may have to add in another wire , I had to when I installed mine . I added 2 wires one to vss and the other to obd

I think you need to connect the vss

in order to tell you which to choose it makes it easier if you describe
6 plug wires
1. color & where it connects
2.color & where it connects
3. color & where it connects
4. color & where it connects
5 .color & where it connects
6 .color & where it connects

7 wire plug
1.color & where it connects
2.color & where it connects
3.color & where it connects
4.color & where it connects
5.color & where it connects
6.color & where it connects
7.color & where it connects

that way I can easily see how you had it , and how it is now , yes the wiring color scheme on the 2002 is Different than the 98
light green wire will go next to fuse box , and in some cases the dark green also , but sometimes the dark green will need to another source

you connected black and gray wires next to fuse box , and ran it to the console ... I guessing you connected it to the convenience center , is that right and how did you connect as it needs plugs to plug into it , is that the plugs you refer to that you got from a 98 and plugged into next to fuse box?

I am not sure what you are trying to say here ,,you connected negative? you mean the black wire? and yellow connected to red?
but then you say that the yellow wire connected to blue ,

data line should go to purple

Since this entire install is an add-in ; I asked for the 1-6 & 1-7 in that how you personally, physically wired it together so that I can compare what you physically connected that was working previously ,like you had started to to say ....
,,so that I could compare what you physically have connected now on the 2002 ,, but you make no mention of the red wire , blue wire or how or why you connected a red wire to a yellow wire , and you posted what a diagram says it should be ; Do you see what i mean?
But only 3 things that I can think of relating to the problem is
1. it is wired wrong
2. you do not have a VSS or the data signal getting to the display
3. the display is bad

I didn't know the newer Astros with the overhead console had more than just a compass and temperature gauge phew now I'm jealous.
