Removing Steering Wheel

Removing Steering Wheel

Postby andypocock [OP] » September 28th 2008, 2:52am

Hi Guys

I've done a search but didn't come up with anything.

The steering wheel on my 95 has some splits in the airbag cover / horn area and generally lets the interior down. Will the computer scream at me if I remove the wheel and run a aftermarket wheel without an airbag ?

I'm in the UK so it's not as if I can pop down the rooad and pick up a new steering wheel.

The SDM will pop a code for the airbag missing and turn on the light. This will disable the air bag system.

I looked at the factory service manual airbag circuit several years ago, you may be able to bypass the missing airbag with a resistor or jumper wire, you may want to do some googling to find more info.

Thanks Guys.

I'll look into bypassing the missing bag, especially if it keeps the passenger side live. Not only that but the warning light would drive me mad.

Mind you when you look at this:

You are not so keen to go without the bag even while you hunt down a new steering wheel.
