97 instrument cluster dead

97 instrument cluster dead

Postby 97safarinodash [OP] » June 3rd 2009, 7:11pm

At first all gauges would intermittently shut off for just a brief second, continued to get worse until now they wont work at all. I removed the cluster and found some cold soldered joints. I re-soldered them but still nothing. The dash lights work but no gauges or turn signals. I bought a used cluster on e-bay and installed but it doesn't work either. What would you suggest trying next? Any help is much appreciated.

Also could be a bad ground. Look around at the wiring behind the cluster.

this may sound silly but my astro has a fuse for the inst. cluster. have you checked that. sometimes the best repairs are the simple ones. whenever i have a problem that i think is elec. thats the first place i head to.

:goodpost:

Intermittent electrical problems are usually wiring problems. Since all of the gauges malfunctioned at the same time, I would look for a ground or other connector in common.
