antenna and cable-by the book or a better way??

antenna and cable-by the book or a better way??

Postby a2l1 [OP] » February 3rd 2011, 6:05am

I have to install a new antenna and antenna cable in the 95. Going by the book you have to remove the plastic at the windshield (exterior) and wiper arms, etc. Then you have to drop the dash panel on the pass side. Well to do that you have to remove the motor cover. There is an awful lot of remove and re-install for the antenna.
I was wondering if anyone has a quick and dirty way? Maybe discovered a way that you dont have to disassemble the front half of the van just for the cable and antenna? Im not restoring this van just making a decent driver so absolutely pure stock is not a necessity.
Cheap and easy is. I got the new antenna with cable attached for $9 at Advance Auto now all I have to do is install it. I even considered mounting it on the door and running the antenna cable with the power window harness back to the interior and to the new stereo.
Open to ideas and suggestions.

Thanks

Could you mount it on the fender and run the cable through the door jamb? Maybe on the roof if the cable is long enough, and run it down the door pillar? On my old S-10 I mounted one on the frame rail between the cab & the bed (new truck, didn't want to punch holes everywhere).

Yeh, Im kind of leaning to the fender and then just punch a hole into the engine compartment and route it through there to the interior. Seal it with silicone and enjoy the stereo. I think the fender is the place.

OK, its done. Mounted on the drivers front fender right at the A post. Selected the drivers side because I figured the cable would be easier to feed. Worked out great.
