amp power wire hookup

Postby evil_motors [OP] » October 23rd 2009, 4:03pm

Where did you guys hook up your power wire under the hood? some people go for the battery terminals and some go for the fuse block and i have heard a few other stories also. so where is the best place?

I'm not sure why you would ever hook it up anywhere but the battery terminal.

theres a thick guage wire thats about 12" long that goes from the positive battery terminal to the underhood fuse box , at the end of the long wire there's a junction with loop connectors , you take the nut off , put a loop connector on the end of your amp wire , put your amp wire at the junction and put the nut back on

Depends on the size of wire I use. when using 4 or 2 gauge, I'll go right behind the alternator. When using 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 or 4/0, I'll go straight to the battery. Of course the larger gauge wired goes from the front battery to the rear battery bank. Right now I'm running 4/0 welding cable ran under the van.

see that is what i was talking about. i just connected it to the battery and now i have some bass. good thing too since all i have in the van right now is my dash speakers and man was that some high stuff. now it sounds great well better than it did. i will upgrade my stuff in the spring or summer. but for now it is awesome. also astro355 what other amp would i be talking about in the mobile electronics section? thanks for all the answers. its been a while since i installed some subs so i couldnt remember where i connected it last time. i could have sworn someone told me never to connect directly to the battery especially on a side post

Not at the fuse box but at the junction connector!
This is the same thing as hooking it to the positive side of the battery except it gives you a good place to connect it!
In the picture theres no inline fuse because this picture was takin before i had a amp , the red wire went to my invertor which has built in fuses ,
and you cant see it but theres a big gob of silicone (amazing goop) around the wires that go through the firewall !!
I dont have a picture for the older vans but its about the same except theres no fuse box under the hood but theres still a junction box on the firewall above the battery , theres 2 posts sticking out of the junction box with red power wires going to them you can connect to either one of them!

Just put one on mine. Plus it gives you an easy hook up for any other accessories you might want to add.

From Car Toys, one of the few car audio places left around here.

If your local car audio store doesn't carry them try http://www.sonicelectronix.com or http://www.crutchfield.com

I just looked, http://cartoys.com/Default.cfm/p/Stinger_Shoc_Krome_Series_GM_Extra_Long_Battery_Terminal/ does do internet orders.

You can also get those terminals from Pep Boys or Autozone. Not sure on price.

I have to pretty much think outside the box on mine

The big copper piece came form Home Depot. It's actually for 2/0. Works great so far.
