Installing rear a/c when not originally equipped

Installing rear a/c when not originally equipped

Postby Cumminsnut12 [OP] » July 12th 2016, 1:02am

I've got a 2000 Astro conversion van which did not originally come equipped with rear hvac. I also have a regular 2000 Astro for a parts vehicle which has rear a/c and everything is intact. What all is involved with installing the rear hvac onto my conversion Astro from the parts Astro.

If you got to ask and you got the van with it. Then just think the most horrible long involved ordeal known to man.

Well, plumbing. If you are installing a factory system, integrating it from one van to the other is just going to be about TIME. And of course, how the outfitter dealt with the interior bits at the back of the van that you are going to want to put in it. Plumbing the A/C lines is probably going to be the most tedious part. Pull the system out of the donor van and reassess whether you want to reverse engineer it into the conversion van. All the holes are going to be stamped into the body or at least you will know the size and locations of them all. You have the best possible chance of making it happen...if you have the TIME.
A temporary fix usually becomes a permanent solution, therefore it does not exist.
