Another vent problem :(

Postby autoangels [OP] » June 22nd 2008, 9:45pm

Hello ! im new to this forum but im a member of the uk version. Im a proud owner of a 89 astro as im the pic below

But since owning it ive been working through its problems, the current one is in regard to the vents only blowing through the demisters. Ive traced back and found the pipe that runs from the battery along the radiator and then down to the vacuum tank is cut as in the pic. Ive then found the tank hasnt anything connected as in the next pic. From there im guessing, ive found a rbber tube which is a little perrished that goes from the black box around the base of the air filter and down into the block via a T piece which has had the T blocked by a bolt. Is this connected and should thus blocked tube link to the vacuum tank and then T junction to the severed pipe by the radiator?? any help greatly welcome. I hope the pics explain. :baaa: :baaa:

This is bace on my 86 the way it was when I bought it. It may not be 100% corect but every thing worked. Reconect the T and the vac tank as you were stating that should alow you to change you control setings, your second post the other is a vacume control solonoid its ether the egr control or the cruse cut out I cant remember which one, I dont use ether any more sorry. If it is the egr control check to see if the egr is directly hooked to vacuum if it is its wrong annd costing you performance. replace all the deteriorated hoses one at a time, same for the rubber Ts and 90s its well worth youre time a small vacuum leak will cost $$$ in fuel. Ill look later today and post any corections late tonight.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks , im learning as i go along

Pic A ) ive confirmed by the look that this is the egr valve

PIC B ) This is the egr solenoid ( i think )its connected either side but a third port is open as im aware this is meant to be like that?

Pic C ) Im still unsure where the tail hose which is capped by the bolt is meant to go to?

But getting back to my main issue which is to get the vents working i understand ?? the thin tube PIC D needs to go to the vacuum tank via a T piece but its where the T piece then goes to ?????????? Im struggling :nut: :nut:

Also whats this component ? PIC E .......and is the above correct

The severd tube pic D goes to a T fitting on the vac canister the other side of the T should go to the manifold just in front of the distributer mine had a steel T fitting screwed in to the manifold if yours dont it can be hooked up to any port comming off the manifold but not the ports on the throtle body thay all are used for emittion conections. If Im still looking at pict D wrong and you have the end that goes down to the tank you will find the other end inside the wire harnest that goes in by the drives feet. The egr solenoid is suposed to have 2 hoses 1 vent port so that looks right The vac sorce for that egr solonoid is the front left port on the tbi some are maked J the other hose goes state to the egr diaphram just in front of the distibuter in pic E. ??? is the line coming from the egr thats capd with a bolt also a T fitting if it is the heat controls may have ben hooked up there before and worked even though it is not the corect way????
