pag oil

pag oil

Postby justinf89 [OP] » March 3rd 2011, 2:03am

I'm installing my new recon compressor this weekend and I'm not sure whether to use pag 46 or 150 oil. Everywhere I find on the internet says pag 150 for gm compressors but when I spoke to the guy I got it from, he says pag 46 is better for the seals. The compressor is a 4-seasons reman unit. Anybody know what oil I should use? Thanks!

The recommended oil for your compressor is pag 150.

Your compressor should have come pre-filled with oil, with instructions on how much to remove if necessary. Did you measure the oil from your old compressor?

Just seems like a trick question.Compressor comes with lube.Refrigerant can be bought with lube in it.I went to college for this and my teacher was a hard case. All the tricks in the book trying to prepare you for any eventuality. just use what it calls for.I been doing this a long time and the only seal I ever had leak is front compressor seal they just wear out eventually. From friction of moving parts. Most of the time it acids inside from never servicing it.no one ever empties system replaces dryer and pulls vacuum to rid system of acids moisture and they still last 15-20 years.Sorry I just confused here.

PAG 150.

When you remove your old compressor, pour out the oil into a measuring cup. Put that much oil into the new compressor.

The compressor thats in it now never ran. I pulled it from my parts van and the seals leaked on it. Measuring its oil would be useless. I figured since I'm putting in a dry compressor and receiver, i'd put in about 8oz out of the 11oz spec'd for rear ac system.

The rest of the system will have it in it still so not knowing what was actually in old compressor hurts.3 oz should still be in accumulator. An oz (guess)Foating in rest of lines and such.8 oz is the total you should have in there.Hope that helps some.EDIT I read your next reply that sounds about right.I did not know when I wrote first part about rear air.

8 ounces should be about right. Put half of your oil in the compressor, the other half in your new accumulator (receiver).

Did you get a new orifice tube? (about $3)

The kit came with all three. Thanks for the help. I guess the 150 oil I got was the right one after all.
