Hello, I have a 2002 Chevy Astro van and I have a strange problem with the front heater/ac blower motor. It is random. Sometimes when I start the engine, the blower works, sometimes not. I checked the fuse, and a fairly new battery. One mechanic says to replace the blower motor, but it does work. I am thinking it can't be the fuse because it does work, at times.
I wanted to check here before I take the van to the dealer to be fixed and for an oil pan replacement as some mechanic that the previous owner used installed an over-sized plug and there is a small drip. Not major, but I like things working properly.
Check the plug to the fan speed resistor pack. I've had this problem on my vans before. When fan is not coming on push on the plug and move wires around. If it comes on there is an issue with the plug harness... in my case I had a bad contact from a partially burnt wire.
The blower connector is so common all the parts houses make a replacement for it. Pull it off and see if it's burned. Rock Auto has several to choose from. They even have a separate section for them. http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/chev ... ctor,10138
I agree with the "Likely the connector" scenario. Seems common.
Oil pan - If it's a simple leak at the drain plug, and it already has an oversize in it, go up to the next oversize (I think there's 3+ oversizes). Seems like that would be hundreds of dollars cheaper than having a mechanic replace the pan.
Lumpy, I was unaware of oversize plugs on oil pans, are they dependable? If something like that would work, yep, it would save me money. The quote was $680.00!
How would I investigate the oversize plugs further?
I know this is probably a cost prohibitive fix for a DIY'er But I really like using TIME-SERT's on stripped pan drains. They hold up for ever, I have yet to have one leak.
Consider it's a sheet metal pan with threads. There's essentially a bolt sealing the hole. The hole has gotten too big and now leaks. You could "make the hole smaller" (replace the pan) or you could "make the bolt bigger" (oversized bolt-plug). Either approach means you need closer fit between the two mating surfaces. The bolt is stronger than the pan. The repair is probably stronger than the original. Bigger bolt is a couple dollars, smaller pan is $680.
upon closer inspection, the oil pan gasket is cracked in places and seep-leaking also.
