Tell me what part is MISSING from my Heating/Cooling system

Postby Rolling_Rock [OP] » November 24th 2011, 10:27pm

I cant get heat to blow anywhere besides the defroster -- YES my vaccume line was broke and I replaced it with a new one ... no luck becasue I think this has something to do with it:

So can you guys tell me what part goes there and how I might procure it.

The tub at the left is the crotch vent and I believe it connects up under the dash. The other part is the floor vent which rides over the dog house. This is mine which I modified to vent some heat into the drivers foot well.

Here it is, it goes straight up along the drivers side of the dog house, should tag in with your right hand dash vent, some how, but I don't recall.

Is this a later model thing? My '98 doesn't seem to be set up this way?

98 had the same tube, it's ducting for the heat beneath the seats for the first row passenger floor heat. The 2001+ have a hose like the modified version above as a stock item, I fished one out of a van last month and updated my van to having the extra heat....there is a duct that is mounted to the bottom of the knee bolster near the doghouse.
A temporary fix usually becomes a permanent solution, therefore it does not exist.

Wow... so neither of my vans had fully functioning heat... :o They still managed to heat sufficiently, even my old 2000 SL without the rear heat...

What you are missing is part #22 in the diagram above. I'm not surprised, because it's easy for a half-assed mechanic to neglect to replace it after putting the engine cover back on. Then it gets lost.

Diagram is above. And I can get it from the drawing either. I think the best bet is just break down go to the junk yard find your van. It will be cheapest there. And best of all the vent in question will become so obvious. Even a blind man could see it. It will go where the dotted lines are in your picture. It really don't get any simpler. Just got to go get it.

After you put the doghouse back on, put the air distribution thingy in place. It'll be startingly obvious at that point (the left side of the air distribution thingy).

Then put the center console back in place and smile ;)
