No more cold drivers feet even at 10F

I had my '97 since new. It's always cooked the passenger and froze the driver's feet. The other day I drove half an hour to work, and there was still snow on the drivers side floor  I had the doghouse off for other work, and decided to get some heat for my feet. I stole some air from the heat duct to the middle seats of the van. It runs under the cupholder and over the doughouse. For the first trial I just cut a 2"by 3" flap in the side of the duct Image it works well keeping your feet warm, but probably takes 90% of the air that would be going to the rear, and it takes longer to warm your feet since the airflow's not directly aimed at your feet.

Next I put about 14" of 1 1/2" diameter sump pump poly plastic hose ($9 for 24' from Menards) into the factory duct at the hole I cut and attached it with a plastic rivet through the duct into the hose Image top view Image I sealed the hose up with duct tape and installed routing the hose to the top of my feet. The rear probably has 60%-70% of its original flow. Which should be fine, but I do have rear heat. There is a strong plastic smell. I'll let it go for little while to see if it goes away. If it doesn't, I'll steal the hose off the drivers knee vent from a junkyard Astro.

Well, going to have to add Ol' Gus to my list of people on A/S that I hate.

Him and his toasty warm feet :snooty:
I've got plans to do something about my cold toe's, if I every get some time to myself and a weather window.

You can't hate me more than my wife does. She drove it with GM's crappy design for over a decade  I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. Like most things I own, I get them perfect right before I sell them! I'm replacing the Safari with a used CTS-V :layrubber: At least the van's new owner won't have cold feet.
