94 Safari vacuum leak

94 Safari vacuum leak

Postby 94 Van Guy [OP] » April 17th 2010, 5:12am

Good evening all,

I have a vacuum leak. When I step on the gas to get on the freeway, the vent starts to blow on the floor. This changes very soon when I step on the gas and I don't get the vent back until I let off the gas. With just a little gas the vacuum never returns. The van also runs rich at an idle and won't pass IM. I have looked for a diagram of the vacuum system on my year but was unable to find one. :banghead: Can someone point me in the right direction to look?

Thanks for looking, Keith

Thanks Jim,

I copied them so I can print them out. It seems like one would need to get into the dash, doghouse and under the hood. I need to replace the engine temp sending unit as well. I hope the good weather holds.

Again, Thanks Keith

Re: 94 Safari vacuum leak

Postby 94 Van Guy [OP] » April 17th 2010, 10:54pm

Lots of help! Thanks! I can't get to the vacuum lines myself so off to the mechanic for me. I also found the temp gage sending unit but wanted to ask a question before I install the new sending unit.

Image

On the dash, the temp indiactor icon does not flash like the others do. But when I turn on the igniation switch the temp goes to the top, then to the bottom as do all the other gages. I don,t want to replace the sending unit if there is something else going on. The red circle shows the icon for the oil flashing. The icon for the temp doen not flash.

Any help would be much appreciated. What do ya think?

It would probably be to everyone's benefit if you did start a new thread with this question. I don't have a first gen van. But, if I had to guess, I would say it is telling you something about a failure. Start a new thread, and lets see. Jim

I have the same problem in my 1996 Safari , and after i saw the diagram . i think the pre. owner removed the vac. tank , could that be the reason ?

I used a one way check valve for air bubbler.Got it at wal mart in pet dept for buck eighty five.Put it in line on vacuum to inside van.Never had that problem again heat or air where you put it.
