newly domesticated

Postby Mennonitemike [OP] » February 14th 2011, 8:03am

Hey ASTROSAFARI.COM I just bought a 1995 Safari AWD with 266000 kms on the clock. I've just finished with an '87 Nissan Pathfinder that I've finally driven into the ground at just over 600000 kms. I needed something that doesn't encourage the hooligan inside too much so here I am. Only the second domestic I've owned, but my folks have one just as I was starting to drive. I've already done a transmission on it so far, I hope that's the end of my big headaches. Now I'm off to the forum to find out why so many people don't like the 95s and if I can bypass my siezed A/C pulley :banghead:

They sell a kit to bypass the air conditioning.Take compressor off and bolt on a little pulley.welcome to forum. The 95 is a transitional year that has some one year only parts. So they harder to get some parts for.

It's not that they don't get love, it's just they're more unique. I actually thought of getting one because it has the newer sheetmetal, yet is pre-'96, so I wouldn't have to worry about ODB-II testing and could drop in a V-8. Course, I found a fairly rust free '91 that I'm happy with, and actually now prefer the older style front. Welcome aboard, and hope that the tranny is/was your only big issue.

Welcome to the forum.
I have a 95 as well but not in the same condition. So far no problem with parts at all. Enjoy the van, they are great vehicles.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I looked around and it seems that an auto wrecker compressor is not much more work to fix my problem. I used to frequent NPORA.com for the Pathfinder and now it seems that Astrosafari.com will be my new forum home, great site!

If you go to junk yard make sure it the right comprerssor.there were 4 different ones on my style van and only one fit.Manifold where it bolts on back some are flat Some one side slightly recessed. Some got high pressure switch others dont. And the style of plug on the clutch varied.I had every one in the yard off before I found one that everything worked. And I did not know about all these differences untill the manifold in back would not fit.I was a little more careful on my second trip to yard.If I was charging myself labor I got rich on that adventure.

I hope I have the right one then. I just read a thread about an a/c problem where it was just the bearing and the guy didn't have to change the refrigerant, just the pulley bearing. Sounds like I better re-evalute my problem before I take it apart any further.
