I have a loud grinding noise coming from the front driver side on my 97 astro awd its getting louder and i took the wheel off and cleaned brakes, checked fluid in front diff and it was low drained it and filled it back up. he faster i go the louder it gets it sounds like some things stuck in the brakes but there clean. My boots have no rips at all and look clean. Any suggestions?
As already mentioned, wheel bearings, brake pads worn, rotor striking something metallic. As for the front diff, it is recommended by GM to use the AUTO-TRAK II fluid. Is that what you used? Thanks.
Are you sure Matrixx? From my research, the Autotrac II fluid is for the AWD electronic transfer cases ('97 & up?) to address the slip-stick problem. All front diffs should take ordinary GL5.
Yes, and I have addressed the post as being incorrect. Thanks for the heads up folks, these 12 hour days of driving are starting to catch up.
Time for a break.
