Rear Bump-stops?

Rear Bump-stops?

Postby JeepDaddy [OP] » August 10th 2010, 3:20am

What are these called? I went to both Napa and Schmucks/O-Really asking for "rear bump-stops" for my 1998 AWD ASTRO LT and they said they didn't list anything. Is this the right name? Are they assist springs, isolators, bumpers, or something else?

The first pic is the "good" one

and the second pic is the "not-so-good" one.

I would also say bump stops. Why don't you show them the picture? Print it or have it on your cell.

Google Timbren, and replace them with what should have been there in the first place.

I ordered the bump stops recommended by chevy57bert Axle housing Bumper 12.50 USD Part # 15595639 from GMPARTSGIANT and they don't look anything like the stock bump stops. Does anyone know where I can get some stock bumpstops?

Looks like the damn things are $45 a piece, seems like an expensive piece of rubber... now I understand why many go with Timbrens.

Any idea how that one out of two got so disentegrated? Only one going bad seems
like some chemical or something got on one but not the other.

It looks like the other side might be going bad as well. I ordered 2 of the 15152251 from AutoPartsDealer.com for $39.34 ea with free shipping. I couldn't find them at RockAuto.com. They must be a dealer-only item. Timbrens would be good, but I'm not up for another $100 for them.

There were no chemicals involved that I know, or fully loaded conditions. The van is just the family truckster for hauling the kids around. The wife does drive it a little hard in my opinion (5 sets of front bakes in 100,000 miles). I think they are just inferior parts from the factory. In fact I think a lot of parts I have replaced on my van were inferior.
