Oil filter adapter leaking, not oil cooler lines

Oil filter adapter leaking, not oil cooler lines

Postby mike_wiz [OP] » November 7th 2016, 7:56pm

Hi All, I have a 96 Safari AWD 4.3. I have been working on these vans for awhile, I own three for my business. But I have a new problem and have searched for an hour on this forum and can't find an answer. Oddly enough this has never happened to me in 18 years of owning these vans.

I am leaking massive oil while the engine is running from the top of the unit that the oil filter screws into, the same unit the oil cooler lines run into the side of. Best I have seen is this is called the oil filter adapter?

It is leaking from where this piece mates to the engine block.

How does this part come out? Is it just a seal that I can replace? Thanks for all the help in advance, this is only the 2nd time I have posted a problem as I have always found my answers by searching, but this one is baffling me!

Mike

When you remove the adapter, you will see there is a gasket between the adapter and the block, this will have to be replaced.

Or you can remove the adapter and lines completely and screw the filter directly to the block using the threaded portion from the adapter.
