I just went through the same issue with my 97 . . .

hard starts for the last four months and finally not at all . . .

took me about a day and a half to remove and reinstall my new multiport injectors . . .

i also thourougly cleaned the throttle body, mass air flow sensor and all the sensors that I could get to . . .

runs great now . . .

i bought the delphi unit off of partsgeek.com - you will not need to purchase the bracket because it comes with the kit . . .

you will need to rotate the injectors around in order for the intake manifold to seal - do not be afraid as they are made for moving . . .

same way with the injector arms - they are made to bend into place . . .

you will not need a nut kit - that was last year's model . . .

leean is excellent help on this fuel issue . . .

enjoy !!!

im finding that if i start it up every 5 hours or so (havent pushed it beyond 5 hours yet) im good to keep running. but when i let it sit.... UGH!!!! :screaming: hard to get started again. Im going to try fuel filter this week since according to the prior owners records it hadnt been changed in 5 years BUT the fuel pump was changed 3 years ago. have to check with local auto store see if they have a fuel pressure guage i can get from them to make sure im getting good pressure.

it'll be hit or miss . . .

and testing will let you know some things . . .

my pressure dropped too soon - which narrowed the problem down to the the spider assembly including the fuel pressure regulator . . .

or the fuel pump supply inside the tank . . .

i don't want to speak for her, but leeann was suggesting dropping the tank, after my test . . .

i opted for the spider because i wanted multiport fuel injection, anyway . . .

once you go to all that trouble - you may as well do it all . . .

also, i have known the mechanic for decades who replaced the pump in '04 and didn't think he would **** it up . . .

so, like one of the responders said in response to me "you've got to get down and dirty with this . . ."

and you will - but, you will have a much better appreciation of your systems when you get through . . .

good luck !!!

My mechanic gives me a break and does freebies, because I remove the doghouse,
clean the engine (or parts in question) label the plug wires etc. I always try and
make sure little stuff like vacuum lines, fuel filter, air filter, fluid levels, battery charge etc
are taken care of so that he doesn't have to wade through all that to diagnose something.

I'm having what I think is the same problem. For the last month or so it was getting harder and harder to start. Now its to the point where it will not start on its own. If I give it a shot of starting fluid it fires right up, and runs great. Any thoughts on the problem would be great.

You need to test fuel pressure and leakdown at the schrader valve near the rear of the driver's side head.

Post the results.

If it starts with starting fluid (scary by the way), you have a fuel delivery issue. Generally means the fuel pump is getting weak, but we need the numbers. When's the last time the fuel filter was changed?
