Freeze Plug?

Freeze Plug?

Postby Leeann_93 [OP] » November 7th 2011, 11:29pm

The water pump on the Safari was leaking, but it's leaking worse behind the power steering pump. It's leaking pretty badly, too.

1) Would it be a freeze plug or the head or a sensor I don't know about? Is there any way to tell?

2) Can he take off the bracket without first unbolting the power steering pump and AC compressor?

When filling the rad after swapping the water pump, he heard a szzzzzzzzzzzzzzz noise, then water poured out from behind the power steering pump down onto the lower part of the bracket. I'm guessing it's a rusted freeze plug, but he can't see back behind it, even with his remote camera thingy.

I can't help him and the manuals are upstairs (though he can go get those) since I'm still laid up with my dang ankle.

Maybe this can be a help with the visual , not sure which power steering type you have , so here is both

It could be a freeze plug giving out

a temp sensor is item 217 in pic png3

if leak is lower than the head it would be a freeze plug I believe

Put the brightest lighting possible under van , maybe that will help see it location

LeAnn when I stripped my 90 van.And looking at Phantoms diagram, they look the same.In Phantoms pic I re-posted the red arrow is the freeze plug in the block. The air compressor will have to come loose,it will prevent the bracket from moving toward the drivers side enough to get at the plug.Disconnecting the rear mounts of the compressor only, may be enough. The power steering pump can stay with bracket.Hoses have enough play to move it out of the way.I pulled the engine out the front with it just like that.Hope this help save you some work.

Get well soon

Out walking. Was going down a soft hill/berm, didn't realize how steep it was, rolled the ankle under me, dislocating and breaking it in several places (and pulling the ligament off the bone). Had surgery to pin the ligament back on and pin the bone back together.

Did it 4 weeks ago now. Surgery 3 weeks ago.

gettin' old sucks. I did all kinds of crazy stuff in my younger years, trouble free. In the last 3, I've fractured an ankle, broken ribs, fractured a knee, and had 3 hernias fixed...... WTH?????

Dang!

I just dislocated/broke my left ankle, as y'all know. Broke my left knee 31 years ago and had surgery to remove the massive chip. No hernias. Tore ligaments in my other knee that resulted in a subluxing patella (the kneecap dislocates at will). Sprained both ankles 8 times. Broke my left big toe, through and through. Broke 2 fingers, jammed/sprained the rest. Broke a bone or two in my hand. Broke my nose (hairline fracture).

This ankle thing is the first nastiness in over 11 years and I was hoping to lengthen the streak. Instead, I did the worst damage I've ever done at one time.

I guess we can forget about giving you a nickname for the moment. I was going to suggest "Lucky", but somehow it seems not to fit...

Leeann, I'm not far behind you. Ripped the ligaments loose in both ankles (different times) twisted them countless times. Fractured shin bone, broken knuckle, dislocated finger, nose broke 4 times, once it split into the eye socket, broken toe, cracked collar bone, 3 separated ribs, water on the knee, blew back out a few times. Got some rotator cup issue going on in the shoulder. Lets not get into lacerations, gouges and punctures, and then there's all these odd lumps and dent's on my skull
