high idle,low idle, ticking

high idle,low idle, ticking

Postby markykarky96 [OP] » June 7th 2012, 6:02pm

hello, this is my first post to this website, but i need help. i have a 1998 chevy astro v6 RWD and im having a couple of problems. my first problem is that when i start the van for the first time of the day, it starts fast, but you hear the motor turning over and it knocks only until it fully starts. once its started, the idle on the van is horrendous. it very high and my oil gauge goes 3/4 of the way up and the dash is vibrating super loud and when you let go of the brake to idle out of the garage, it goes very fast because the vans idle is way up there. once i get driving for a while, the idle goes down(in about 10-15 min. when warm outside)to about 1/3 or less. i feel like the van is idling too low and it is constantly shaking/vibrating more than normal. also i am always hearing a ticking coming from the van near/around the motor area towards the back of the motor. i have replaced the distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs, wires, idle air control valve, air filter, changed oil(and used Lucas lubricant that goes in oil), new gear box, power steering pump, Pittman arm, whole front end, rebuilt the differential, brakes power boost, cleaned injectors(original ones probably need to be replaced) new belt(2years old) and i only use shell gasoline in my van. i have no clue what the problem can be and im just so confused. if you have any information just let me know and it would be very appreciated. thank you!

You could check the operation of the egr. You could also check for a vacuum leak. Is the throttle cable moving freely?
