2000 Astro Missing sometimes, then runs great.

2000 115,000mi Astro will sometimes start to miss and engine dies. You will be driving engine running great, then it misses, lurches then runs fine. It may not do it for months. Makes no diffrence cold, wet, dry or hot. Replaced coil, wires, plugs, rotor, cap (AC Delco) Crankshaft positioning sensor(mechanic shop replaced it said they hooked it to computer and it said it was bad?). Does not throw a code. one time it did throw a code I think it was just a random missfire code. Any Ideas? What software could I get for my laptop that might help me trouble shoot? What would be the next thing to replace? Very frustrating...We really like the van it is perfect for our family and want to keep it. Thanks!

There is a code po300 random misfire For faulty EGR operation due to carbon where the pintle gets stuck .Do you remember what the misfire code was ? Could also be a bad ignition module

I want to think the code was maybe 301 304? Just a guess. Would the egr valve cause the engine to stop running? We would be going down the highway and then the car would just hiccupp a few times I would let off the throttle and then it would run fine. Definately interrmitant. I need to take the EGR apart and check it.

It never hurts to take the EGR off and clean the carbon off of it and replace the screen.... just my :2cents:
