Best OBDII Tuning Solution

Best OBDII Tuning Solution

Postby Nutsy [OP] » August 4th 2009, 8:29pm

Hi there,

I just picked up a 2000 GMC Safari SLT RWD and am looking to get a bit more power and fuel efficiency out of it through ECM tuning. I have done search after search and haven't been able to come up with anything really definitive on this subject, so i am hoping that people will chime in to clear a few things up for me.

First of all, can someone please explain what the options are in CHIP/ECM tuning for the Safari/Astro 4.3L engine. From what i have read, HPTuners seems to be the best bang for the buck, however, you need to tune it yourself. Has anyone here done a HPTuners tune? What other ECM Tuning has others done here?

Your thoughts and experiences are appreciated!

Thanks

Yes, me too. My 97 safari runs better than my 2000. is this possibly related to the 2000 being all wheel drive? By better i mean that it accelerates smoother and quicker the 2000, seems to be slow off the line and has a "flat" spot untill rpms get above middle (3000 rpm my guess). torque does seem similar, but when you floor it the 97 feels great in comparison.

Can we chip these things and if so what have been your experiences? cost?

Well, did you guys find anything out? I have a 1996 AWD safari and I think I'm going to give wait4meperformance.com a call. Their website doesn't give much and i'm not sure on price yet. just want a little more HP, MPG, and better shifts. This and a K&N air filter will be the extent my mods. Let me know if you've got any more info!

Sorry to dig up an old post. But yes, I run hptuners.

One word..

Awesome...

It takes a bit to learn and you are not going to tune a car in 15 minutes. I took me months to get mine dialed in the way I want. And even now I still tune and tweak. Also I have summer and winter tunes.

The guys on the hptuners board are great and really help out, if you RTFM first... Search for my posts over there for specific astro info. I am FGCUHank on that board.
