Hesitation at Idle + Low RPM

Hesitation at Idle + Low RPM

Postby PHANTOMII [OP] » June 1st 2016, 1:19am

Hi! Joined today! My 2001 Astro AWD has developed hesitation at idle + low RPM since I removed the 2 plastic side pieces that snap into the air filter box. I took them off to allow more air to flow easier to the air filter. Seems like the engine doesn't like not having to suck hard. I didn't do any other changes to anything and now I have this hesitation. Thanks in advance for HELP!

Ďid you unplug the MAF while doing this "procedure" and maybe forgot to plug it back in?

Not sure what you removed or why, the engine will not notice any difference.

Got a picture of what you did?

Check and make sure the clamps on the air snorkel between the mass airflow sensor and throttle body are tight and that there are no cracks or leaks in the rubber. Also try cleaning the maf sensor with maf sensor cleaner.

Removing those side pieces makes warmer air enter the air filter box. The pieces scoop cool air directly from behind the grille - moving forward forces the air in.

They really were designed with purpose.
