1999 GMC Safari AWD steering box

Postby kramerhd [OP] » May 10th 2012, 1:20pm

Been reading a few post on steering box adjustments.

The following picture is the box for my AWD Safari. Are the red and Yellow screws the adjustment points?
And If so, Is there a right and wrong way to adjust it. My steering has a little too much play, and want to see if a slight adjustment would help.
NOTE* New tires,Idle arms,Alignment,Bushings are in good shape, ball joints are good. Nothing else seems to need replace or repair.

No they are not. Those are just plastic plugs to keep dirt out. That is where the power steering hoses attach.
The one in the center with the yellow mark is the one. There is a nut on that. Loosen it tighten the center screw untill the steering wheel has about 3/8 to 1/2 inch side to side play. Tighten it down and check again. It may change when it is tight. Do the adjustment without the van running.
