1st Annual Burning Van Eastern Washington

Re: 1st Annual Burning Van Eastern Washington

Postby LAZ 1 » April 5th 2017, 12:19am

After Wintering in sunny Mexico for the last six months, I will be driving NORTH from Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico, in my 99 AWD Converted Micro Motorhome.

Stopping first at the Overland Expo West event in Flagstaff, May 12-14.

Hopefully I will make it to Washington in time to attend your Burning van event.
1st Annual Burning Van!!!
Rimrock Meadows located in Eastern Washington about 16 miles North of Ephrata WA
When:
Memorial day weekend from Thursday 5/24 to Tuesday 5/30.

My DIY built AWD Tiger Clone has held up remarkably well during the six months it has been bouncing around on the tight, narrow Cobblestone streets. The Bilstein shocks have definitely been worth the cost, as were the all new HD brakes, and many other mechanical and chassis upgrades I did before leaving. And, that massive HD bumper/push bar, gets a lot of respect, creating very polite Mexican drivers, who quickly yield the right of way to me. But, did I mention TIGHT/NARROW streets? The poor van body compartment has made intimate aquaintance with several other parked Mexican vehicles, buildings, balconies, trees, and even a few concrete telephone poles. Good thing I built it TOUGH, with 1 1/2" aluminm corner mouldings. I did more damage to my opponents, than they did to me.

However, after six months in Ajijic, I have decided the next build will be a simpler raised roof van, not quite as wide. Because my original plan for "THE BLACK BOX" was to live in it full time, in remote areas like the sea of Cortes side of the BAJA, I over built this unit for long term rough terrain. It is larger, and wider, and more than I really need if I live in a rental Mexican casita. So next trip down for the Winter, I plan to take a smaller rig.

Which means, "The Black box" will be up for sale as soon as I get back to Canada.

C U there

ROLL CALL! Memorial day weekend is almost here, get your Vans ready to get dusty and dirty!

What day are you arriving and departing?

Food: BYOF
I have a standard propane BBQ and a 55 gallon drum smoker for use. Possible Street tacos Saturday evening, some donation per plate. Details to follow
Most likely have the smoker going for most of the weekend. Use at your own risk :)

Beer/Booze/Wine:
I think greatwhite is bringing a few kegs of beer? :poke: I may have buddy bringing a few more, but bring what you want to drink and lots of it.

If you have a folding table and have room for one bring it!

I'm sure we will all be bringing our tools. I'll be bringing a spare alternator, starter, AC comp, and probably a few misc other things.

What are some things you guys are thinking you want to do besides go hit some trails?

I think it will be a bit cold for the Waverunner last weekend there was still ice on the lake..

Thursday: I'll be arriving early afternoon

Friday: Honey Bucket delivery There is also normal bathrooms and showers a mile a way. 8-9am there closed for cleaning..

Saturday: 12pm Show and Shine followed by some exploration with potluck style dinner.

Sunday:

Monday:

Tuesday

Questions? Ideas Thoughts?

I will be coming up on Friday, I likely wont be able to get off to early, so i might be there around sunset (hopefully earlier).

Whats an address I can google to figure out miles and stuff?

I will be bringing some essential tools as well. And I have a lot of extra parts I can pick through, maybe a radiator would be a good idea. I have a 6 foot fold up table, and a few coolers I can bring full of ice, I am cautiously optimistic that its going to be hot.

Still cool to bring some guns and targets?

Yes there is a gravel pit owned by the State down the road about a mile where everyone shoots at things. There is no shooting on private lots per association rules.

Address is 115 Bourne Pl, Palisades, WA Big Pergola on the lot you can see it from the main road.
https://goo.gl/maps/fxBaYtUVVW12

Will figure out parking and camp spots as people arrive. I also have another lot down the way if some people need quite time or what not. Ask me then and I can show you where it is.

It could be hot as hell out there just dunno with this years weather. Also remember to bring chap stick humidity out there sometimes gets down to 1-5% it can be brutal. Wind can come out of nowhere at times so if you have pop up tent or what not make sure its secured down well! We watched a $200 10x10 pop up tent blow 100yards into a barbed wired fence making it unusable.

Just an idea?
With some long haulers I figure I would toss this out there.
In the event I don't make it or you are coming thru early. I am 8 miles from I-5 and 512 (Lakewood just South of Tacoma) in the event of repairs needed. I am no tech but have a decent set of tools. Assuming some will take I-5? Might be less stressful going 97 on the dry side?

Since I am rafting the John Day river this weekend and my boss tells me she needs to get to the family cabin before the big weekend that leaves me with very little time to get my van road ready.
My maybe is quickly turning into a probably not.

If.... I get my you know what together can I come on a minutes notice?

Almost a month now with no internet, so I've been incognito, van has an abs light on, misfiring on 3 cylinders and leaking oil  hopefully I can dial the old girl in before the trip......I bet she'll still make it to Rimrock though.

I think We'll be heading out thursday evening. Should be there by 7-8pm. Can't wait for the Alstown ghost town cruise. 8-)

hope to see alot of vans make it out
