Staggered Fitment

Staggered Fitment

Postby meetthespeakers [OP] » July 30th 2012, 8:38pm

Well looks like I am going to do a few more mods to the vans since it's been a while. I ordered the tires up and getting ready to order up the wheels. I am kinda doing a hotrod them, 17x8 front, 18x9 rears. Front tires I will reuse which are 235/55/17's. Now I didn't want to have the rear side wall height smaller than the front, so I decided to go with a 255/55/18. Any thoughts on this combo? Figured as a side benefit I would turn less rpms on the highway...

Section Width: 10.03 in
Rim Diameter: 18 in
Rim Width Range: 7 - 9 in
Overall Diameter: 29.04 in
Sidewall Height: 5.52 in
Radius: 14.52 in
Circumference: 91.23 in
Revs per Mile: 716.2
Speedometer1: 56.1 mph

The rim I am looking at has a 0 offset for the 9" rear wheel. So looks like it would push it out 1/2" outward than my current setup. So I don't see this being a problem. To think I have had Astro's since 1986, probably been through about 10 sets, but never tried the staggered in height setup. Thoughts?

Well, tires came in last night, they look pretty meaty. Did a test fitment on the rear, def going to fill up the wheel well a healthy amount. I may not lower the rear any more, so it will def have a rake to it. Will post pictures when the new wheels arrive. I decided to change wheels, as much as I wanted to get Coys/Rev Classics, Coys being expensive, and Rev's being the right price, but not having the best fitment on the rear I am gonna go with Show Wheels. The offset looks like it will tuck a hair more on the back with a deep dish. Logo on wheel is love it or hate it, atleast in black it is not as noticeable as in the other color choices.

Alright, well finally placed the order, did a fast one at the end. Ended up going with US MAGS u106 Wheels 17x8" Front, and 18x9" Rear. The price and the fact that the entire wheel is clear coated, unlike Boss 338 wheels made me decide to go with them. Plus the backspacing I felt a little safer with. Fronts have a 4.5" BS, and Rears have a 5.25" BS. So that should only kick the wheel out .25/50". I went with a black center, anyway this is what they will look like, hope to have them by the end of the week. Will snap some pics when I can:

Very cool

That is a lot of meat for the rears. You could do like a mini tub. You may not have to go wider, possibly just square up the stock rear tubs, get rid of roundness. But a little taller tub could be helpful.

You think I am going to have a problem with 255's? I know at one point in it's life I had 245's that rubbed the outer lip, I am hoping these will tuck a hair more. It's gonna be close, haven't people run 275's with 20x10's on here stock?

Sorry, I have no idea what will fit. I do know how to modify the wheel wells. I was just saying, if you want to lower it or do some hauling, may have to modify the wheel well.
