V-8 'Stro needs a new home

Postby dafrogtoad [OP] » November 21st 2016, 6:59pm

I have a 1994 Astro that was converted to a V8 quite a while ago. I built it, ran it and had to abandon it for economic reasons.
It was a passenger van, the interior of the rear area has been cleared out and an RV couch/bed is installed on the drivers side. The
motor mounts, complete (V8) exhaust, 4-core rad, 4 very low mileage tires (Firestone Destination) the Racecrafters conversion manual (I'm PRETTY sure I can find that) and a COMPLETE overhead console (not installed) come with the van. There is no transmission. The engine is available but will need a different cam. (not broke, but not suitable for the computer, the problem i could NOT fix that led to me not driving it more) Engine is NOT included.
The van has a Lund moon visor. The body is in pretty decent shape (especially underneath) with some surface rust starting under the windows. The paint is typical Chevy faded. There is a class 3 hitch, roof rack and the driveshaft.
If you want a V8 Astro, here's one ready for engine/trans.
There's probably more that I forgot, but you get the idea.
I'm asking 1K. V8 conversion parts and the 4 tires are worth that. You can tow 'em home in a blue, clear titled 4-wheel Astro shaped trailer if you want!

it would be good to know where it is located since towing costs depends on distance.

Can we change the title to "V-nothing 'Stro needs a new home" ;)

That stinks.

Yep, once you start to stray too far from the stock cam, then you have to have to do some tuning or else it doesn't like it.

The van is in Poplarville MS.
It's got the needed V8 conversion parts already installed. (so there ya go)
Engine IS available.
Yes, straying from the stock cam SUCKS.

can you be a little more specific on the parts such as the intake, the injectors and cam and would you sell parts from the engine?

This is what i can remember. (I do have all the receipts from Summit racing somewhere!) The engine was run for 2-3 months.

Full roller 4 bolt 355,
Built with all Summit racing parts. (I have the list somewhere). The engine maybe ran 15K miles before I parked it.
Vortec steel heads, (64CC i think)
GM perf. TBI intake,
Stewart water pump,
HO oil pump,
50mm TBI w/spacer,
Aeromotive fuel regulator,
Specker plenum w/cone filter, h
Heddmans headers

I had the engine built by a reputable builder. However he did NOT know it was going in a TBI vehicle (he's more racing/classic oriented) and I didn't know the difference, so the cam is just a bit hot for this application. It ran, ran pretty damn good, but would not run/idle/run to my satisfaction.

I also found the chip burning equipment from TBIChips. That will go with the van.
Ok, maybe a parts van, but as I get things moved and find more stuff, it's getting to be a better and better parts van!

I'd like to get 1k for the van with all the non-engine parts listed. The tires, exhaust, 4-core rad., the RV sofa/bed, overhead console, (console AND mount), V-8 engine mounts, TbiChips equipment for OBD1, moon visor and the titled van body is worth that.

I'll get all the receipts out and figure up an asking price. I'll also be moving this to the "market" section.

You do realize that once these parts and engine are in your hands they become used parts. No one ever gets money spent on vehicles back in full its just the way the world is. I am not trying to make you feel ignorant or anything of the sort but no one ever pays full price for used parts or a parts vehicle, I mean why would lets say a person buy your used parts for full price when they can get the same parts from summit with a warranty?

Now as far as the van goes its probably a decent deal with all the extra's but if no one bites your best bet would be to drop an engine and trans in it and craigslist it. Or strip it down and sell the parts individually. I have seen a few van deals here in California but because I would have to rent a trailer and drive an hour or more to get it then get it on the trailer then drive home, this alone would up the cost by at least 200,000 bucks not worth the hassle so I did nothing. Do you see my point? Most people will not buy a vehicle they can't drive home period! Now if it was a chevelle or nova or camaro of some vintage then thats a different story because the older stuff is in bigger demand as it it already a collector car. We all love these vans but we also know the value to most folks is just not there. Good luck. Mark

I understand completely. I put it out there, if someone wants it, (perhaps someone close) fine, if not the parts wil be saved and sold piecemeal next spring after I scrap the body. Thanks for the kind words, no offence taken.

If you decide to part it out please write my email address down as I would be interested in the injectors and the intake manifold but you will have to understand I am a disabled vet and get paid monthly so give me a heads up, Thanks Mark mark-mitch@hotmail.com
