What is the difference between the 2057 and 1157 bulb

What is the difference between the 2057 and 1157 bulb

Postby 94 Van Guy [OP] » February 12th 2011, 11:17pm

In the owners manual it calls for a 2057 Park, Signal Lamp. When I do a search for a 2057 bulb most all of the adds say there is no difference. I have spent some time doing a search here and have not found an answer.

Does someone know if a 1157 bulb will work as a turn signal lamp in my 1994 Safari van?

Any help or experience with this is most welcome.

Thanks for your time,

Keith

I just went down and looked.Sylvania 2057 what I using I still got the package.Got them at Wal mart.I dont have 1157 but I do have 1156 bulbs in my junk in the trunk section downstairs.I used to do this junk at work.I dont have catalog but usually they follow suit.Physically it will fit.But the 20 sieries bulbs have two filiments and 2 contacts on bottom. The 11 sieries only has one filament and one center contact on bottom. My fog lamps on my van are a completely different number than what it calls for so it still possible.Take your old bulb and size it up against one you looking at.Two pins on side of bulb at different heights must match and have 2 contacts on bottom 2 filaments.Sorry I did not have that bulb to be sure.

1156 has only 1 filament usually used for back up lights , 1157 has 2 contacts and 2 filaments one for stop/hazard and one for tail/park/running lamps . The 2057 are a newer version of the 1157 that burn brighter but are used for the same purpose as the 1157

Beware when trying to use a 2057 in a car that is suposed to use an 1157. The lense might melt. Had this happen once in my first car, the shop put one in and did not tell me and in short order there was a melted spot where the bulb gets close.
