wipers not working

wipers not working

Postby DaveAstro [OP] » April 1st 2011, 7:02pm

ok, on the 93, the wipers don't work.
I followed the diagnostics in the shop manual, testing the switch, and wiring, etc. and it told me to replace the wiper pulse module, so I swapped it with the 90.
both modules work im the 90, neither works in the 93
if I ground out the wiper motor to the chasis, the wipers work on low, constantly as long as the key is on.. doesn't matter what position the switch is in.

anyone have this problem before?

Take the cover off the wiper motor and look at the board. The traces on the board get broke or interrupted.

I ran a strand of wire to recreate a trace on mine and solved the same issue you are having. Honestly the strand of wire is a bandaid fix and I don't expect it to last too long. When it fails agian I will just replace the enitre wiper motor.

that board would be the wiper pulse module, that I said I swapped out between vans.
both boards work fine in my 90, neither works in the 93

This may sound a little crazy but give this a shot.
1. Crank the van
2. Turn wiper switch to high
3. Give the circuit board a good whack with a rubber mallat.

your right! that does sound a little crazy, lol

I'm thinking there may be a short in the motor itself, going to get into it more tomorrow when I can work on it inside, away from the damn snow.

have hot wire at the motor?

have ground in black wire there too?

if so then probably dead motor or fried board

not uncommon

make sure a connector pin isnt melted burnt also

it happens........ especially on high current draw connectors like the heater contorl panel fan speed switch in these and full size trucks and s10 trucks

common problem issue,,,,

as I have said, it isn't the board.. I have two vans, both boards (wiper pulse modules) work in my other van, neither in the 93
no matter what board I put in, if I ground out the motor case the chassis, the wipers kick in regardless of what position the dash switch is, as long as the key is on.
following the diagnostics, the switch tested fine and the wiring between the switch and the motor seems ok. I am thinking there may be an internal short in the motor.
as soon as I get a warm dry day I will get into it further with the multi-meter and see what I can find out.

so, I fixed the wipers.
before my friend passed away, he was trying to say something about wires and colors.
apparently he either took the jack apart or it fell apart that goes into the wiper pulse module, the wires were all backwards.
fixed that, wipers are working!
