ecmb no power

ecmb no power

Postby UsedCarTech [OP] » March 5th 2012, 8:59pm

Ok so I have a fuel problem but I put it here because has been stoped by a ele. problem.
I have read over alot of entry on here and many have talked about this fuse and it blowing and wires to the fuel pump and relay.
But my issue is there is no power at the fuse marked ecem B its is a 15 amp and there is power to the ones around it. The book says it should be hot at all times. But I have taken out the fuse and there is no power on both sides of the termial (i dont know what its called) its where the fuse goes in to with all key postion. So what to test next? :banghead:

Alittle back ground on my problem: 4.3 95 safari, runs great one rainy day just dont start! Have spark, and turns over and over, great battery. No psi on fuel shedder value. spray in intake it will start for min then out. fuel relay has no power on any wire going to it (4 in all) in all key postion.

Exactly what year is your van? So the van turns over but will not fire up,is that correct? When you turn the key do you hear the pump prime itself? Sounds to me like your fuel pump is not getting power.
I am not sure if the fuel pump is wired through the coil. You said you were getting spark, was the spark bright blue? Have you checked the fuse for power with the tranny in neutral? It could be your ignition switch-maybe .
this is a question for Phanthom.

So the van turns over but will not fire up,is that correct? yes and no psi on fuel value, measured with gauge.
When you turn the key do you hear the pump prime itself? no
Sounds to me like your fuel pump is not getting power. right no power to rely or the fuse the book said to check.
I am not sure if the fuel pump is wired through the coil. me neigther
You said you were getting spark, was the spark bright blue? YES
Have you checked the fuse for power with the tranny in neutral? No, umm, the fuse is not blow- when you pull it out the 2 termil pieces behind it have no power at all in any key postion.
It could be your ignition switch-maybe? But with starter fluid it will start?
this is a question for Phanthom. Yes please help...........

The ecmb fuse gives power to the fuel pump and relay , DRL lighting and headlight switch on some models , you should have power on at least one side of the pins where you plug the fuse in , if not on either side make sure there is no corrosion , then check the wiring going back to the under hood fuse block , there is a fusible link that may have blown , here is a couple of pics of the wring diagram to follow the wiring ,, you may check other fuses that may give power to the circuit , as on some older models the horn fuse is also in the circuit

I have no other fuse boxes under the hood. The fusible link wires, are you referring to the 4 big ones behind the battery becuse I have replaced those before? Do you think its the ecm? there is power to the fuses around it.

Sounds like you have a shorted out wire. I would trace the fuse back to the battery and just run a new fused wire. The shorted wire is probably buried in the harness. I am thinking that the fuse is actually a 20 amp and that someone put a 15 amp in so that it would pop before it got too hot. They may even have gone from a 20 amp to a 25amp, causing even more of a short.
One thing I have done to find shorted wires, is have a friend hold a test light to the fuse all the while you wiggle and giggle every wire you could possible find.

The book says 20 amp for 96 and 10amp for 94. I have a 95 and the box where the fuse goes in says it's 15. I just now noticed that the headlights don't work, so I think it's one of the fusible link wires behind the battery, can I go around them? If not what fuse is a fusible link? Ummm

The diagrams posted are for a 95 astro and it shows on the diagram to use a 15 amp fuse , use the diagrams and a test light and a continuity tester and start by examing the diagram as to where to test for continuity , I'm sure you'll find it , a fusible link is a piece of wire that is of a smaller gauge wire so that if too much cirrent passes through it , it will burn out and stop passing voltage through it , often looks like a piece of wire that has shink wrap on it , do continuity testing on the headlight switch and circuit as well ,, does the horn work ?, does the cig lighter work?

Hey. i get the same problem. for me its the wire that powers ecmB melting at the connector on the firewall. pull this connector out and if the third wire to the left (orange in this pic) is melted that's you're problem (this connector is right behind the battery on the firewall.)
