I am also looking for this same info, for a 2000 astro. I poked around with a wire hanger for quite some time but couldn't find a passage from the interior to the engine.

I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough to start drilling holes...I'm certain I'd hit something.

I drilled a hole right above my battery (little to the right ) of the battery.
I put E6000 glue in the hole to keep the wire from bouncing around , its like a homemade grommet

If you are ever in doubt as to where the drill bit will come out on the other side of the sheet metal, get a hammer and a nail-set or big giant nail and a hammer and make an indentation.

On my Express work van I ran them through the passenger fender (battery side) & down behind the kick panel, then under/behind the foot well. I mounted the inverter on the front of the cargo divider behind the seat. Is there room for a similar run in an Astro?

I'm using up to 1750W so I needed much heavier gauge wires.
