Headlight wiring

Headlight wiring

Postby daytonboi [OP] » July 13th 2010, 8:21pm

Ok here is my problem. I'm getting an HID kit for my Astro. I still want my DRLs, and would like to change them to the High beam side. However I have the high-4 mod installed. What would I have to do to make the high beams my drl and also keep the low beams from coming on with the DRL high beams?
Thanks.

Have you thought about just disabling the DRLs all together?

No don't want to disable them. Required for work.

The full size vans are wired to the turn signal lamps.

Could that be a work around for you?

If you can email me an OEM schematic of the lighting system I should be able to show you what you want to do....

I would think running the HID's as DRL's would work good. They last MUCH longer than halogen bulbs, and are brighter

i feel opposite as cybrvanr
usually drl is a module that only sends 60% to 70% of the 12 volts to the head lamp. thus a slightly dimmer bulb . they say its to prolong bulb life. i would feel that 60% to 70% power to the ballast would either make the bulb flicker and burn out or burn the ballast itself. there are no facts here just a concern for your hid system.

another option as turf said would be the blinkers (turn lamp) or perhaps does your van have the driving lamps low to the ground? i believe they are in the bumper but cant remember.
Don't explain it poorly 5 times. Take the 15 seconds to go out and take a picture of it!!
Please do not confuse idle conversation with technical advise

Good point...I didn't think about that! If you could modify the DRL circuit to put full power to the low-beam you would be set. That would get rid of any ballast issues that could crop up running them at less than full power
