I have not tried it yet , but will check it out , I used to use Registry Mechanic , and several others and they seem ok , but nothing really great . This is what I have found to be among the best and it is Free .

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

This tool really helps things stay clean , I run it everyday

Keeping the Temp Files folder cleaned, Temp Internet Files folder cleaned, Keeping Cache cleaned , Defrag the Hard Drive regularly, and having as much RAM as possible really helps, Having an add in video card with it's own CPU & RAM helps out the overall system performance too , it takes a load off the system CPU and memory

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded and now testing it. I am always a little scared to clean the Computer, what if it clean to much

I realy don´t have any problem with my computer, just wanted to check if everything was Ok.
I have Genuine Intel CPU 2160 @ 1,8Ghz and 4Gb Ram.
It´s a ATI radeon HD2400XT video card in it, I bought that so I could have 2 screens. I don´t know if it have it´s own CPU. It has 256Mb memory, if thats the RAM.

If you install and uninstall various programs sometimes they do not get completely removed , using windows regedit can remove those remnant pieces left behind in the registry ,
RAM =Random Access Memory ,,the physical hardware sticks that are in the memory slots , If your computer does not have and can use DDR2 memory it will help speed it up , DDR =Double Data Rate
4 GB is good
Here is a list of specs for your video card:

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/547/1/

CCleaner can also remove clogged data from files , if you have never used it before it may remove a lot of old trash files , first time I used it , it cleaned out 1 GB of trash files
Now it is usually about 50 -100 MB since I use it everyday

It cleaned out 463MB of trash :D And a load of useless files from the register that I think was leftovers from uninstalled programs.

I have this in the Computer.
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2160 Processor (1.80-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB)
and
2x 2-GB DDR2 Synch DRAM PC2-5300 (667-MHz) Non-ECC.

 I'm going to try this for myself the next time I have a problem.

For the most part I'd rather just wipe out everything and reinstall the OS if I ever have any issues but based on what you guys are saying, I might not have to do that in all circumstances.

Windows 7 is what Vista was supposed to be ,,Win 7 is actually Vista being refined and tuned better , Vista has\had compatibility issues with a variety of software and some hardware compatibility issues , they had corrected many but more kept popping up so MS basically jumped ship on Vista , as Vista was also known as a resource hog and bogged down many computers , running 4 Gigs of memory you might not notice so much as it pretty much needed that much RAM to run good. If you switched to Win 7 you will likely notice a much better performance of your rig as Win 7 is more efficient and not nearly the resource hog it was in Vista ,

If you decide to switch to Win 7 , back up and burn to disc all the data you want to save , which should be done anyway , that way you have it for easy install if you ever have a drive failure, The do a format of the hard drive , deleting the partition and doing a "clean install" You can also use programs like Norton Ghost , or other ghosting programs that will make a copy of your entire hard drive including all programs and setting preferences , and when you do an Operating System install , it will install your system to exactly how you have it now , so you do not heed to reinstall all of your other add on programs like photoshop , It makes installs a whole lot easier saving a lot a time from not having to install all the extra stuff. SATA is a serial version of ATA , much much faster speed and transfer rates , SATA 2 transfer rate is up to 3 Gig per second , SATA 1 is 1.5 Gig per second . your motherboard might support it , if it does you can simply add a SATA drive , If motherboard does not support it ,you can get an expansion card that plugs into the board that has sockets in it that provide using SATA drives , both internally and externally .

The ghosting programs, can they copy the hard drive to an external hard drive? I have two 1Tb external hard drives.

Yes they can , ,it is usually used to make a bootable drive , if all you want is to make a copy of data there are several ways , the easy way is just right click and use the 'send to' and choose where to send it , depending on how much data you want to send you can do it in smaller steps by using "send to" for each file

The "right click-send to" way, is that with or without Ghost?

The Right Click is part of Windows OS , you will have to make the send to menu have a hard drive choice , but you right click on any file any go down to send to ..but anther way is , after you connect your external hard drive , open "My Computer' all hard drives connected should be seen there , then you open the hard drive you want to send the files to and make a folder there if you want you don't have to make a folder but it will keep things organized if you do,,and then go to the files you want to copy and right click and highlight the files or files go down to where it says " Copy" and click , then go back to the hard drive you want to copy to and then Right Click and go down to where it says paste and everything will be copied to that hard drive , depending on how you have the hard drive connected will determine the speed it will copy .

I try the "copy/paste" right now. I am a bit confused, I copy the entire C: and when I check C: in "Explorer" it says "used space 76,1Gb", but when it start copy it say 24,0Gb.

Did it change as it copied?
By copying the C drive you will copy the Windows Vista install as well but it will not likely be a bootable copy , as to make it bootable certain files have to be placed in first m kinda hard to explain in short , ,are you copying so that you have your data saved as backup ?
How do you have your data stored?
I usually will load all data into the default "My Documents " folder and then from there I will run the install of progs, after install I may delete the .exe files from the documents folder , usually after I get enough data\progs to fill a CD or DVD, then I burn it to disc and store it away in a box in the closet , then after I burn to DVD I delete everything in the documents folder to free up the hard drive space, keeping only what I would use often. You do not need to copy the windows portion of C drive, that is about 10 Gigs you do not have to copy , but it is ok if you do , maybe it is set to only copy a certain area , has it finished copying yet, and if so how does it look afterward?

You can create a new folder and name it "Burn" then go to all the data that you want to save and "cut and paste" or copy \paste into the burn folder , then all you have to do is burn that folder to DVD , or just copy\paste that folder to the external hard drive you want it in.

Not finished yet. I'll watch it and compare when it's done. Normally I just save copies of photos on one of the external hard drives, and extra copy on CD.
IF it copied the programs I have on C:, I will try to open them from the external hard drive.

It said 24,0Gb from when it started to copy.I am pleased if it copy my programs and pics like a backup, it doesn´t matter if I can boot from it. I have CD with Vista and a recovery CD.

Usually when installing programs it will create a folder for the prog then install it there and create the files the prog will use to run it, .
You can open the C drive and there will be a folder called Program Files where they are created .
You may be able install the progs on the external drive and run from there .

I usually will use 1 drive for the Operating System antivirus\firewall and stuff like that

and another drive to install programs on and run them from there. That way when I do a Windows OS reinstall I do not have to reinstall my programs as they are already installed on the 2 hard drive
