my astro van stall

Postby artlara70 [OP] » February 12th 2012, 4:44pm

Hi i have a 97 astro van that stalls it just turned to 180 k miles. It starts up perfectly sounds pretty good but when i press the accelerator hard it stalls i have to press it real soft so it can accelerate. I recently did a tune up, changed the rotor cap,air flow sensor, and throttle sensor, i think its the fuel injectors because i added a liquid to clean them and it worked better for a while now its back to being slow. can someone plz help me

Vacuum leak?

Double check your new MAF/MAP sensors. My MAP electrical connector was wonky till I took it apart and cleaned the contacts.

Doesn't really seem likely that your injectors are a problem based on what you describe. But in any case, if it's a TBI, visually look in there while you activate the throttle. Watch to see if both injectors seem to be doing the same thing. Check THOSE elec connectors on the injectors. Check the wires as they pass through the edge of the throttle body.

More dramatic, spray injector cleaner around the intake manifold gasket and see if you hear/see a change in engine speed, suggesting a blown gasket.

Spray cleaner around vacuum hoses to watch for the same results to check for vacuum leak. Vacuum hoses are a PITA to me. I just replace them every couple of years or at least snip off an inch of the end of each one.

Hey Lumpy,

I tried the old cut an inch off the hose trick, until the hose was too short to fit, then I tried cutting the hose again, but it still wouldn't

fit. Any ideas ?

Yes. You either have to take your van to Australia or Peru or some other place where you're in the Southern Hemisphere, or just order scissors and hose from Australia. Then when you cut, it will get longer instead of shorter. It's all because of the magnetic pull of the earth. CargoCrawler could explain it better than me.
