Postby sfeaver [OP] » April 12th 2010, 3:31am

Anybody know what the subframe by itself weighs on a 97 Astro?

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,

Curious why do you ask??.Also much would depend on if it is a AWD or RWD.

I have a RWD. I have it in the garage right now and want to know if a couple of guys could stand it up and roll it outside to powerwash it. The van itself is outside the door and there isnt enough room to roll it out flat, but if its stood up it will fit..

Scott,

With mine and it loaded with the suspension, steering, brakes, that was off a 1989,two guys could pick it up.Now I am 62 yrs old and I was one of those two guys.So I would think it is doable.Tough, but doable.

See if you can't snap some pics of your project along the way. That would be very cool.

Ok sounds like its managable then with at least a couple of guys :) I'm 31, so exactly half of you so I better be able to pull/lift my weight hehe

I will definately get some pics up to show what I am up to..

I'm gonna bring a dynamometer home from work so I can see exactly what the thing weights, for interests sakes. I'll post it on here.

Hmm, The 97 sub-frames are heavier than the 89s, 2 people? It's a stretch, good luck.:)

Ok, I weighed it.. With nothing attached other than Steering Linkage, Anti-sway bar and brake rotors it weighed 425 pounds. Thats without a steering box, or those front impact bars in either.

Two guys did move this around with a third to place the dolly under one of the rotors to roll it around. It is heavy!

Well now it's done and you can kick back, take a couple Aleve and a few beers to ease that backache ;)
