Put a smaller punch up from the bottom. Hammer that. Or, if you can't, wedge the punch against something lower and hit on the control arm.

I just attached the drill to the punch and started spinning it around. Lol.

I'm worried that I'm going to drill through the control arm and ruin it. the hole I drilled appeared at the opposite edge of the rivet...

I'd do increasingly larger bits. You've got a through hole. The metal holding that thing in place is getting less and less thick (it's going away!). Drill it out a little, bang on it a little, bang from another direction, Drill a little more, eventually (maybe now) there's only a foil sized piece of metal holding things in place. You'll soon bend it enough that you can pry the ball joint out.

That is part of completing the BJ, you can borrow the tools required at your LAPS, ask for a pickle fork. You are at that bridge :)

Are we there yet?

I wish I had power tools :'(

Hey guys check this earlier pic out. EDIT she posted it at 6:33 march 18th on page 2 fourth post down.
Me quoting it didn't link the pic. :banghead:

I think that it shows that on the right sided one the drill bit walked towards the right.
See the shiny crescent moon shape ?
Isn't that part of the rivet ?
Sorry that you have to go to page 2 and click to see it.
I suck at the computer.

So should she drill with small bits towards where that shiny spot was to get re centered ?
Because right now the started large hole is pretty off center.
She has corrected it some with the smaller bit.
Looks like it still needs to go a little more to the left and maybe forward also ?
By forward I mean towards the bottom of this page.
Seems like some more drilling with 1/8'' or smaller bits to get a pilot hole more centered would help.
With little bits you can point the drill more sideways to move the hole over a little.

See 4th post down on this page - top pic is the one that needs some work.
The bottom pic, the one on the left looks pretty good.
I just thought a little caution is needed on the one on the right.

Anybody think mercuro chrome or iodine could show the rivet while she works ?
Like penetrating dye for cracks in welds.
A red marker ?

Maybe wait on the one on the right until somebody chimes in.
Sorry to hold up progress.

awesome. thank you for enlightening me!

deafman wrote:Because right now that hole is pretty off center.

yes. it definitely is. when i drilled through it, i drilled on the left edge and (i don't think i drilled straight down but even so) it came out on the right edge.

the other one is off center too. that's why i'm concerned about drilling through the control arm, if i haven't already.

thanks for pointing that out.

You do NOT want to drill through the control arm. Sometimes you may have to make the holes a little bigger, but that would be done while installing the new ones and only when necessary.
