Rear Air shocks...

Hi all ...I have a 91 astro van and the rear Passenger side is saging a bit...was going too add on a bolt on helper spring kit but then saw it was a fiberglass spring.My question now is i will probably go with a air shock...Good idea and what kind.

Some will say do it, others will say don't do it, but the choice is ultimately yours to make. Based on my particular situation, area & experience with air shocks, I put them in my van and have no regrets. Mine's a '95 and also has fiberglass springs in it.

I have Monroe load adjusting shocks on my 87. Rear end went up about 1/2" and is pretty level. It didn't make it ride any harder and don't have to worry about air.

I don't know why everyone doesn't put air shocks on all of their vehicles, its a well known fact that having the back of the vehicle higher than the front means you are always going downhill so you will always be faster!!!

Mine has air shocks with dual lines.Sits exactly the same as it did.Just dont sway on corners.For leveling a suspension with miles, they work well.There is a difference between eliminating sag form years of use and jacking it up with 180 lbs like high school.

yeah, mine has air shocks too, makes the ride a bit harsher though, but what the hell, its a work van, full of tools, and the air shocks were already on it!, I currently have them at around 40 psi, and that keeps the van level, any less and i get a droopy rear end!!!!, any more and i get the old high school rake!!

I put em on to get rid of the bad lean around corners.Did not think the door handles could take another good draggin LOL.

Greetings...yes i put that in my first post...its a weak fiberglass leaf spring .what brand air shock would work best to raise it a little...not gonna get into changing leaf.thanks for everyone help.

I've had good results in my other vehicles with Gabriel HiJackers. In the Astro I have Monroes, so far so good.

I just put the heavy duty kyb shocks on and my rear sits a lot higher. Of course my old ones were just fine.

Have you compared it to regular? Do you find them too harsh?


The spring assist ones seem like it would be a harder ride. Then again, WITH GOOD DAMPERS my miata feels better with 4x stiffer than stock springs so perhaps the leveling shocks really are the way to go.
