How To: Change a Door Jamb Switch

How To: Change a Door Jamb Switch

Postby 88astroLT [OP] » June 28th 2012, 4:47am

This procedure may vary slightly through the years, but it's basically the same.

Items needed:
Small Flat head Screwdriver,
7/16 Wrench,
New Switch

First locate the switch.

Loosen the "bolt" with the 7/16 wrench.

Pull the switch out. Please NOTE: Your dome lights may go out after a short period of time, OR may go out instantly depending on the year of the van. This is completely normal because the switch needs a ground.

On the side of the switch locate where the wiring harness connects to the switch.

Now take your small flat head screwdriver and push IN on the tab, shown below pointed by RED arrows, while pulling the wires off the switch.

Now do the exact reverse of this and now you have a new switch! Please note that i already replaced my switch before taking the pictures used for this write-up.

This is a picture of my old switch, which is why i replaced it.

Good luck,

Straight forward. My fix costed me 2 cents. Two of the switches had the little "head" on them broken off and I just stuck a penny to the door to get the switch to push back in all the way when the door is closed
