justsomeguy wrote:Yeah, that's a good idea. I was actually just looking at some of those today on a website for RV supplies. Some of those shades are expensive - $89 to $149, depending on size. Or $249 for shades with a remote control. I have 6 windows to cover, so that could get pricey. Maybe I'll see if I can adapt some household window shades. I'm not sure what the difference is... maybe not as durable? But I bet they're a whole lot cheaper!

I didn't even consider RV shades. They're too thin, in my opinion, and they really don't block light at all from either direction. Stealth would go out the window. I like the heavy mil vinyl ones, the kind that make a suspicious house look scary, but would look great in your van. I'm thinking Wal Mart might have them for $10 or so each. I'm going to check some prices, I have to go there in a little bit anyway  :banghead:

Walmart should be a good place, and if they don't have the right kind of shades, one of those stores that sells window covering for houses would probably have them too. I've heard of window shades that block out all daylight for household windows - that's the kind I should look for. I'm sure I could attach them at the top with screws, but probably need Velcro on the bottom since the walls in our vans are kind of curved. Hopefully I could install them so they sit flush with the van wall and window frames - I don't want any gaps that could let light through. But, if I have dark enough window tint, it might not be noticeable if a bit of like around the edges gets through.

CONFIRMED!!!! - The pull down shades are cheap as hell, $8 for the most expensive ones. plenty big enough to fit, and they supposedly block out all light.

Awesome! That's probably the kind I should get then. Hopefully they're easy to trim. It would be nice if I could get them to fit inside the window frame so they're out of the way. If not, then surface mounting them on the wall is the next best. Thanks for checking those out! A whole lot cheaper than those shades from the RV supply website!

Actually, now that I see the designs, I kind of like them. Maybe they have one with Hello Kitty, The Smurfs, Barbi, etc, or even just plain old hot pink.

JUST KIDDING!!! :text-lol: :text-datsphatyo:

I'll stay with plain black, no design, just nice and dark to block the view and light.

But are they a measly $8 per?  In any event, it will definitely be less expensive and will much better suit its purpose.

Live dangerously and tint the whole van - Tint 20% all around...
Usually... If you are spotted by police, they will not harass you on tint if you have out of state plates. They will always enforce on local tags.

I wear prescription eyeglasses and my eyes are sensitive to bright light, especially in Winter with snow everywhere, and sun light bouncing off of it.My self-darkening glasses won't turn dark while in the car though. They need direct sun light to turn dark.Well, we bought an Olds Aurora back in '95 and wanted to have the windows tinted dark.Michigan law stated that a letter from a eye doctor stating I was photophobic(actual physical photosensitivity of the eyes) was the only waiver allowable to be able to tint all of my windows, at any percentage. My Optometrist had no problem writing me out a waiver that I always carry with my registration & insurance now.
My wife was pulled over once in '98 and got a ticket for the tinted windows. It was promptly dismissed in court when I showed my waiver.Any family car I drive registered to me or my wife with tinted windows is legal with this waiver.
And my eye doctor told me,"don't be telling everyone about this",he didn't want gobs of people coming to him for phony waivers, just to get window tint.. :naughty: :D
But its out there as a legal option. In Michigan anyways.
