There are a variety of them on the market. I barrowed one from the parts store. you loosened two of the four bolts on the pulley, and then attached it there to hold the pulley in place. Then with the thin wrench provided in the kit, you can loosen the fan clutch. I will look for the brand name or a picture.

A large crescent wrench with the wrench at 12 o'clock.
Adjust it snug to the fan nut.
Hit it with a large hammer.

This method has knocked the nut loose most of the time

I am pretty sure it is a standard lefty (ccw to loosen).
BTW . . . leave the serpentine belt on for this method.

I am just finishing up on this very project. I replaced the water pump and asked the same question. Yes, A Z will loan you the tool to remove the fan and clutch. The tool is nothing more than a large flat wrench. HOWEVER I was told the nut was reverse threaded and it was not! This cost me a tensioner and a fan clutch because I had unfortunately destroyed both tring to remove it ( 2000 Astro Van 4.3 v6 ) and since I was told it was reverse threated I spent 2 days in the N.E. Ohio tightening it. Oh and if you must you can remove the 4 bolts that hold the water pump to the block and it will come off as a unit. Hope this has helped, now I must finish the project .
