Re: Fark Me, Shop Put Green Stuff in the Dexcool...

All of my vans through '02 have a radiator petcock, but my '05 does not. And it is a factory radiator. Pulling the lower radiator hose speeds emptying both the radiator and block but, as Wiley said, it is a bit messy. There are block drains as well; pipe plugs on both banks. Pull those and the lower...

Re: Differences between 2000, 2001, and 2002 A/S?

No difference in turning radius between my ‘99, ‘00, ‘02(s) and ‘05. All AWD.

Re: 2004 AWD Base Astro - DCsleeper

Welcome!

You’ll probably have to reflow the solder on the wiper board. Cold solder joints are so much fun.

Re: How To: Oil Cooler Delete (Level: Easy)

Why bother? OIl is the only thing that goes through there, it’s not open to coolant.

No need to cap off the cooler.

Re: Best battery

I run the beach quite a bit, stay away from the water but it is real tough on the van. My 3 year old outer rockers are paper. Going to do the rock slider mod. Starting Saturday!! Gonna get it done over the holiday weekend? no, I wasn't serious. I don't run my Astro on the beach and the PO app...

Re: Best battery

Everything was spotless and coated when I did the 5,7 swap, every nut bolt and screw, no kidding. Take a look at the thread, cleaner than new. The salt air near the ocean reeks havoc!! Crap - I forgot where you are. I do remember the spotless, beautiful bolts and screws. I live in MD, near the Ches...

Re: Best battery

Much better!

Cleaning up the firewall ground, core support ground and any other ground I can see and reach usually is the first thing I do to one of these when I acquire them - they're almost always crusty and rusty.

When it arrives, you betcha. Not that the beer fridge’s freezer is either big or frozen, but I have several glasses in there. Wheat beer glasses, pint glasses, etc.

Re: What have you done to/with your van today?

Drove it down and gave it a bath and quickie wax, then took it to my favorite beer store (now that it's back open again for browsing) to fill up the beer fridge at home. Also ordered a keg to swap for the keg that I killed right after this crap started, so the kegerator will be full again as well.

Re: Espar Heater Installation Help

I'll third it - go from the tank. The third pic is the evap vent valve. Leave it be. The last pic is the fuel supply line to the engine. Also leave that be, but do replace that fuel filter as Wiley said. Hose down the two fittings with PB Blaster. You'll need a 20mm flare nut wrench and a 16mm flare...

Re: 2003 GMC Safari Brakes

You'd have to test, but it looks like the booster is working. Master cylinder certainly needs a thorough cleaning and then bench-bleeding. Lines go from the master cylinder to the proportioning valve, then to the ABS pump and then to the wheels. The proportioning valve probably needs to be flushed, ...

Re: Center Cap Bolt/Screw Size

If they came off an S10, the bolt pattern is wrong for an Astro. Astro's are 5x5, Blazer/Jimmy/Bravada/S10 are 5x4.75.

Re: Starts like a dream, quickly turns into my nightmare

The metal lines on the driver's side are oil cooler lines. They don't have coolant in them. No, the coolant shouldn't be reddish pink. Dexcool is orange. Is it muddy or just reddish pink? No matter what it is, you should flush that out and put in distilled water and regular green coolant. Sputtering...

Re: Replacement jack

I have the OEM jack still in its box, with an extra set of wheel chocks grabbed from a parts van (to make 4 total). I threw another pair of the wheel chocks in the back of my Jeep Liberty. I prefer to use my pneumatic over hydraulic jack at home, but that's not practical for on-road repairs. I actua...
